Special Council Meeting
11-4-6
Page 4
he has a hard time giving up a truck that is worth only $6-10, U00 in Tieu of a truck that is
$150,000 going into the woods.
Council President Fixler said Mr. Ferrante's suggestions may make some sense. He is thinking
if the legislation would pass with the caveat that not only would we not replace it but he would
like to put a dollar amount of what is reasonable to spend on repairs. For example, if Chief
Mohr would tell them the pumper they decided to keep will now cost them $10,000.... If Council
is of the mind to keep it, under (a) not replacing it when it's on its last leg and (b) he would like
to pick a point of no return on repairs. He would like to pick the dollar amount and he would
like it to be a part of the legislation.
Chief Mohr said the truck is need of a carburetor now.
After a brief discussion, Council chose $2,500 as the dollar amount.
Council President Fixler asked Council to consider passing legislation, in title, to purchase the
pumper based on the following conditions:
a) that the bid for the new truck is acceptable-leave it capped at $150,000;
b) that we will keep the fire pumper we are replacing--but at no time will we replace
that piece of equipment--and that the amount of repairs for the duration of its life
with Mayfield Village not exceed $2,500;
c) that there is a commitment made that there be no rolling stock purchased for the Fire
Department for the next 15 years--unless conditions would wanant it such as
damage to vehicles or an incredible amount of expansion to the Village.
Mr. Diemert said Council should suspend the rules. He restated the conditions as follows: to
authorize the purchase of a fire pumper not to exceed $150,000.00; we will keep Unit #612 but it
is not to be replaced whenever it would decide to give out and there would be no repairs in
excess of $2,500 throughout the rest of its lifetime with the Village.
Council agreed that such repairs would not include routine maintenance such as changing the oil.
1VIr. -Diemert said additionally, there would be no additions to the exisfing rolling stock in the
Fire Department unless the conditions in the Village change.
Chief Mohr asked if that includes ambulances.
Council President Fixler said it excludes ambulances.
Ordinance No. 96-38, entitled; "An emergency ordinance authorizing the purchase of a fire
rescue pumper with the contingencies stated herein and declaring an emergency." Introduced by
Mayor Rinker and Council as a Whole.
