Regular Council Meeting
4-19-99
Page 16
for the poles for future wiring. We are looking at 15 area lights for the option on night
swimming.
1V1r. Brett said he is concerned about the last line on their cover page. He thought we had
anticipated the future possibilities of night lighting.
Mr. Muhlbach said we looked at controLs. Controls and things like that that we can
accommodate now we did. What we looked at originally in the bid was six 50' poles and those
would be added in the future. What we discussed at the last meeting was to put in the area
lighting poles with provisions that wires could be pulled to those in the future and do night
swimming off of those. The contractor is indicating there is not ample room in these poles for all
the conduit. He is indicating we can't add on for structural purposes to get the height we need for
night swimming. It is not impractical to do it--we can add the controls but we will still have to
dig up areas to put in footers and all the wires to those poles. There will be costs involved to the
future.
Mr. Brett asked why we can't do the wiring now.
Mr. Muhlbach said we talked about that. The option was we have six 50' poles which we
originally bid. We said that is not the look we want; we want something more decorative. We
said can't we light these off the same pole like Night Vision was talking? Now they are saying
they can't take a 20' pole and add 10' feet in the future. Our contractor is saying to do that he
would have pull all-those wires out in the future and run those wires but he would have to take
those poles and put in new poles.
Mr. Muhlbach said the option would be to go ahead with the area lighting, provide footers for
six 50' poles in the future (or at least wire them to those locations). We need to know what
direction to go. If you are looking at lighting it now, ideally you would put a decorative 20' pole
and add 10' to it and go with the sports light on top. In the future if you want to light, you would
be putting six poles with the sports head on top of it. Progressive has 40' poles in their parking
lot. It is getting later and later. We are trying to open this pool for the 4th of July weekend.
Mrs. Cinco said the original letter was dated February 9th: At that time we were all confused and
asked him to please give us some specifics. It is now April 19th. Where did we lose two months
plus? Now she is even more confused because we can't do what we originally thought we could
do.
Mr. Muhlbach said we can do what we originally thought we could do but what has come up is
that the specifications as are they are writt'eri?iriclude a single?head;shoebox fixture. The City has
indicated that is not what they would like.. We could put provisions for the vviring to the six
locations for future night swimming. Those will lie , 50' poles:with,a sports type light. Those
were the original alternate to the bid. To add those now is $47,000?. We were a'sked•to meet with
Night Vision and have them run the calculations to see what they can do. We did that. He
explained the options they looked at regarding poles. The manufacturer said you don't want to
take a 20' pole and add 10' to it. So,R, if you want, to put provisions in for the future--if youmoi:ld
