. . ....: r ..
Regular Council Meeting .
1/16/95
Page Fifteen
HVAC/Villa,ge Hall - Mr. Brett said the Building Commissioner, Chief Stevens and he are
looking at different alternatives; he does not know if they have any concrete proposals at
this time. He would like this item kept on the agenda.
Mr. Ferrante asked if there has been any progress to moving our meetings to the
Community Room.
Mayor Rinker said this all touches on the same stuff. We have at least preliminary ideas on
paper from Bernie, but still the dollars--something final that we can work with--has not
been accomplished: We know that we can get two HVAC units for roughly $10,000 and
everything else stays the same, except that the environment is much more livable
(especially for the Finance Department). The fact of the matter is with the ADA
compliance, we have to start thinking in terms of where to shift the dollars. We have done
a lot to remodel the community room. One plan would be to add a storage space or
possibly enough space for an office. Mayor Rinker said he has no idea of the cost on that.
He sees the steps as these: if we put the money into the HVAC units, where they may be
reusable, we are probably not going to get all that great a shake for the dollars. He had
heard from Bernie, informally, that by remodeling this space (which would require Council
moving over to the community room), we could do that in all likelihood for a comparable
amount. For a rather modest expenditure we would accomplish bringing Finance
downstairs, some police personnel upstairs and have this as one office structure. We have
not gotten the final word from ADA, but we know from our discussions that we are going
to have to look seriously at such factors as whether we need an elevator, a ramp, some kind
of physical modification to this building. Let's find out what else it is going to take for the
community room, we are close to having an idea what it's going to cost in here. Hopefully,
by the next Caucus we will have a better idea of what the renovation inside the Council
Chambers will take and can start working on the Community room.
Mr. Amendola clarified the additional space is 10' by approximately 45-50'.
North County Trunk Sewer Line - Mr. Cappello said on Friday the 13th, they submitted
the tentative assessments to the County. The resolutions for the Board of Commissioners'
agenda would be February 7. If everything goes well there, there is a long process of public
meetings; in June we should bid the project, mid-July, open the bids, basically start
construction at the end of September.
Council President Fixler said we are tentatively set up for a meeting February 1st at 7:30
p.m. The date could change; he will keep everyone posted.
