Regular Council Meeting
1/16/95
Page Three
(a very big project we are doing in conjunction with Highland Heights) and another :
Worton Park. Mayor Rinker said he and Bill Buckholtz attended a meeting where the
committee members voted on these dollars. At the last minute, there was an effort to
make a rules change. We argued very strongly to modify (we hit upon a compromise)
on how they would affect the point spread. As it turned out, after the voting was done,
we were advised the following day that we were on the bubble. We had gotten
encouragement, but we still hadn't gotten the final word. As late as Friday, we tried to
get some word to confirm because computers had been down for a number of days
before. Mayor Rinker said he still did not get word. Today, Steve Hovancsek's office
received word notification which was sent out Friday the 13th. Both of the project
where we had applied were accepted just as our applications were made. For the North
County Trunk Sewer, that means that we will get a grant of $1,850,000 (to be split 50-50
with Highland Heights.) There is a zero interest loan of $830,000. For Worton Park, we
had requested a grant of $275,000. That has been approved; and, a zero percent interest
loan of $550,000. For a 20-year assessment that an average home owner faces for that
project, this will mean a difference of over $10,000 those property owners will have to
pay for assessments that will be levied when the sewers come down the street. These
are very expensive projects. These sewer lines are coming through; the EPA is literally
forcing them on us. This is the one way that we can defray substantial costs. It took a
real lobbying effort; this was a community effort. Phil Brett did a yeoman's job of
working with County Planning Commission. Everybody was involved. It is real
satisfying to know that we were heard and that we received funding for two
applications.
1995 Appointments
POSITION NAME LENGTH OF TERM
ANIMAL WARDEN Brian Miller 1 year
Mr. Basile, seconded by Mr. Ferrante, made a motion to approve the Mayor's
appointment of Brian Miller as Animal Warden for a term of one year.
ROLL CALL: AYES: All
NAYS: None
Motion Carried
Appointment Confirmed
Mayor Rinker administered the oath of office to Brian Miller.
ENGINEER Stephen Hovancsek 1 year
Tom Cappello
