Regular Council Meeting - ,
4/24/95
Page Five
Shelly Kovacevic, 6771 Eastgate - said once this line goes in, we will all face this
direct assessment. Can you tell me that any of this funding will help us in the
future?
Mayor Rinker said he does not have a crystal ball; he does not know if we will have
additional funding. He does not know what the direct cost will be and what
funding will be available. There are other ways that they can find to cut the costs, by
grouping together, by looking for competitive pricing. He can't tell you if Issue II
funds will be available at that time, because nobody can tell you. They are
committed to it. Over a majority of Council is facing the same or similar problem.
We are all in it together and are committed to making this as painless as possible.
Mrs. Kovacevic asked how they can help the Village get the monies.
Mayor Rinker said when you write your Congressman. When we start looking at
ways that there are other funding opportunities. Whether that will be with grant
monies; looking for a bank of contractors. Those are some of the kinds of things that
can be done. We will be working on that in Worton Park over the next year. We
will learn more as we go along there. We are in this together and are committed to
making this work well.
Bob Perna, 6754 Eastgate Drive, asked Mayor Rinker to project this whole room 100
years from now. We have had sewers for 90 years in this community and they are
failing. How do we go about replacing them.
Mayor Rinker said in 90 years he will tell you.
Ginny Johnson, 6765 Eastgate Drive - said when they moved here 35 years ago, they
moved to a community that had septic tanks. They were told at that time that the
septic tanks were sufficient and that they would not have sewers down the road.
Now, her husband and her are retired. They are going to be facing extra expenses.
Whose idea is it to put the sewers in? If the septic tanks aren't working, that is one
thing. But, Mrs. Johnson said she hasn't heard anyone complain that the septic
tanks are failing and that there are any problems. Don't you think the people have a
voice in that? Are they being forced to move out of the Village because of the added
expense at their age. Is there an explanation for having sewers? Whose idea is it
and who is responsible for the sewers in the first place?
Mayor Rinker said all that has been addressed at the two different meetings (one
meeting was 4 hours, the other was 2.) He doesn't know how to address it any
differently.
