Regular Council Meeting 6/19/95 Page 2
COMMENTS FROM MAYOR RINKEIZ
Mayor Rinker said Council has been discussing this at length. When we look
to the sewers down the road, the general idea of a Sewer Relief Fund, we will
basically look to be in the sanitary sewer business for a while. Whatever is
voted upon tonight will not end here. He is optimistic there will be an
evolutionary process and is confident we will get some results from it.
COMMENTS FROM COUNCIL PRESIDENT FIXLER
Council President Fixler said the Septic Sewer Relief Fund is something that
was thought about a couple of years ago. Everyone must keep in mind that
we must go through the diligent process of coming up with what we think
will be an acceptable formula for all residents to embrace. All of us have
thought at great length about this. It is the first of its kind in Mayfield Village.
We are working diligently to find any way possible to come up with more
funding. Mr. Fixler said it is important to keep in mind one thing: Mayfield
Village government was going ahead because of funding--if we had not
received 2.3 million dollars in funding, this would shed a totally different
light in terms of what we would be willing to accept from the State EPA.
Council President Fixler said there are 125 septic sewers in Ward 1; 147 in
Ward 2; 45 in Ward 3; and 86 in Ward 4--a total of 403 in the Village. This
affects the community as a whole. He encourages all of Council to vote
unanimously yes on this legislation this evening.
Council President Fixler noted there is not a formula for disbursement of
funds included in the legislation. The formula is complicated and we do not
know what the future holds. He noted that everyone who is in the same
phase area will receive equal amounts. We will not look to individual
incomes, et cetera. Mr. Fixler asked for a motion to amend the agenda to vote
on Ordinance No. 95-24 at this time.
Mr. Buckholtz, seconded by Mr. Ferrante, made a motion to amend the
agenda to consider Ordinance No. 95-24 at this time.
ROLL CALL: AYES: All
NAYS: None
Motion Carried
Agenda Amended
