Regular Council Meeting
6/19/95
Page 8
Mr. Basile said he has been on Council for 12 years and he can't remember a
variance given to a sign for them.
Mr. Buckholtz said he does not think you can judge the potency of P&Z by
how many times is upholds an ordianance. He thinks P&Z is a very
important group to keep us on top of what the ordinances are. If something
comes up that is very objectionable and questionable in the community and
you catch one thing that would really mar the community or be a detriment,
then we have done our job. He does not think that it is the quanity. He
wants to go with the recommendation of P&Z, but at the same time, every
situation that comes before us is individual and unique. Maybe if you find
you are bending on the ordinances many times, then those do have to come
up for review.
Discussion was held.
Mr. Ferrante said we have another sign request, principally along the same
lines, for Home Bank--what are we going to tell them--no, we can't or yes we
can because we gave it to them? How do you differentiate between one sign
and another sign?
Mr. Flynn said he agrees with Mr. Ferrante and Planning and Zoning. Even
though this is temporary, (because Revco came at us too and they were
denied); he feels granting a color variance would weaken the sign ordinance.
Mr. Fixler asked the square footage of the vacant building.
Tom Gustafson, a representative from Ostendorf Morris said approximately
39,000 square feet.
Mr. Fixler said to a potential leaser/buyer--how many employees would that
bring in?
Tom Gustafson, a representative from Ostendorf Morris said 150
approximately would replace the number that were at Progressive previously
in this space.
Mr. Fixler asked if he feels the sign would make the sale for the rental of that
building accellerated as opposed to not having that specific sign.
