Regular Council Meeting , . ,
6/19/95
Page 9
The representative from Ostendorf Morris said we wouldn't put our money
into it if we didn't think so. We are paying for the sign. He thinks the other
side of it is if you look at 150 people in about a$30,000 average, you are
looking at a payroll that runs into about 4.5 million dollars. The City will
keep 1% of that (that's $45,000 minimum.) He thinks the reality is the long
you defer, the longer it will take to come to pass.
Mr. Fixler asked how long the building has been vacant.
Tom Gustafson, a representative from Ostendorf Morris said approximately,
he thinks, almost 2 years.
Mr. Fixler addressed Mr. Ferrante--he said he did not believe Home Federal
would be asking for a temporary sign; he believes they would be asking for a
permanent one. He agreees with Mr. Ferrante wholeheartedly--if this was in
the interfacing of town (like Revco or Home Bank), he would not be in favor
of this at all. Because of the 9-month time limit situation, he supposes if we
heard a lot of objections from our constituents about that, once the 9 months
is up, they probably would not get it renewed (if it passed.)
Mr. Buckholtz said he thought we discussed an alternative to the current
sign--something without the colors in it.
Mr. Fixler said the discussion was if you could make it the blue and white
without the colors.
Tom Gustafson, a representative from Ostendorf-Morris said they have
worldwide recognition with this exact color scheme.
Mr. Fixler said he will entertain a motion to grant a sign variance to the
Ostendorf Morris Company for a 9-month time limit.
Mrs. Cinco, seconded by Mr. Buckholtz, made a motion to grant a sign
variance to Ostendorf-Morris for the color of a temporary sign for Ostendorf
Morris Company with a 9-month time limit from the time of application. ,
? Roll Call: AYES: Mr. Buckholtz, Mrs. Cinco, and Mr. Fixler
x
; NAYS: Mr. Basile, Mr. Busa, Mr. Ferrante, and Mr. Flynn
` Motion Not Carried
r
Variance Request Denied
