369
Regular Council Meeting
10/16/95
Page 5
Mrs. Cinco, seconded by Mr. Busa, made a motion to authorize an expenditure of
$2,640 to Radick Landscaping for hydroseeding at Wiley Park.
Roll Call: AYES: All
NAYS: None Motion Carried
? Expenditure Authorized
M Rock Salt - Mayor Rinker said we have agreed to go into the State program which
Q gives us a guaranteed low rate. In years past, we have always had two different
Z providers. This year, it will just be Akzo. This is something of a test--if this does
? not work out, we will have to look at it next year. It is supposed to be a good
savings.
Council President Fixler asked if the Akzo salt has the special cold weather salt and
asked if we need to get it, can we get it.
Mr. Brett said no. The only time we would be able to secure that salt is if Akzo
cannot deliver.
Mr. Amendola said we can buy a liquid calcium on our own and put in the trucks.
It would require a sizable tank and pressure.
Mr. Amendola asked if they could purchase salt from Morton if Akzo gets backed up
and can't supply salt.
Council President Fixler asked the temperature differential between the calcium-
treated salt and the non-calcium treated salt.
Mr. Amendola said the Morton salt is still effective at approximately 12° below zero
and the other quits at about 8° below zero. The biggest difference is that the material
that is put in Morton's does not allow the salt to clag together. Sometimes the Akzo
salt is basketball size; it must be broken down.
Mayor Rinker said if we determine there is an emergency situation where we need
to get a certain product, we could do that on a spot basis and he would make that
argument contrary to the State contract. We can't anticipate doing that now; we are
entering into the contract in good faith.
Mr. Amendola asked if we do not get the salt delivered to us from Akzo, do we
have a right to go to Morton?
