Special Council Meeting
3-9-98
Page 8
Mr. Buckholtz said Mayor Ri.nker called him after that and he got over it and said it was a good
deal.
Mayor Rinker clarified they never said they will build a pool.
Mr. Buckholtz said hi.s only point in bringing this up is that we looked at the details and. said we
could ha.ve crafted that deal a iittle better so we went back and tried to craft it better and he said,
too late, we made a deal. So we crafted a deal with them, they go back and said we could have
done this a little better and they are coming back with it.
Discussion was held.
Mayor Rinker said he ha.d said to make sure the agreements were reciprocal and got signed at the
same time.
Mr. Busa questioned the potential number of employees Progressive will eventually ha.ve in the
Village.
Council President Fixler said if all buildings are built, it could be in the mid 5,000 range.
Mayor Rinker said there are 3,000 now.
Mr. Busa said we have 4,000 residents which he thinks is 5,000. He asked the capacity of a
normal pool.
Council President Fixler asked the population of Highland Heights. You build a poal that you
think is generally large enough to service your needs. There is no pool tha.t can handle 8,000
employees and 4,000 residents. The pool will be whatever it will be. We will try to keep it
around 1.2 to 1.5 million_dollars. We are getting one million dollars. The deal was it was going
to be restricted to Mayfield Village employees.
Mr. Busa asked why they don't just give us the million dollars and we will build our own pool,
make our own rules, ma.intain it and take all the destruction.
Council President Fixler said if youweren't going to allow their employees to use it, they
wouldn't give a million dollars. We can go over and over this but the reality is-are we willing
to let it go for 24 months and that is it or are we willing to say it will stay the way it is.
"Mr. Buckhoitz asked if there was a third option-are they willing to offer something.
Mayor Rinker propased that before we do anything, we put in writing the tightening of languagc
regarding the 12/98 date and put in there what is rational about site development on both sides.
The wetlands should be addressed. He does not think it should be a fundamental problem He
does not think either side negotiated the wetlands issue to any great extent. He does not think
that should become an issue now. He thinks in time, we will find a happy medium in how to
