Regular Council Meeting <br />7-6-98 <br />Page 8 <br />eastern cuisine. We are trying to have something complimentary to the food. There will not be a bar <br />and they are not there to se116-packs, 12-packs or cases. He distributed menus. <br />Council President Fixler asked if all their restaurants currently offer beer and wine. <br />Mr. Nemer said yes. They just received a permit in Independence. <br />Council President Fixler questioned if there is a policy regarding the distance between their <br />restaurant and the school. <br />Mr. Diemert said in reference to the Department of Liquor requirements--there is a school across the <br />street--he thinks the requirement is a few hundred feet. He questioned if that has been checked. <br />Mr. Nemer said when you apply for a liquor permit they would notify all schools as well as the <br />municipality if they have an objection to the liquor permit being transferred. <br />Council President Fixler recommended Council's motion be for a conditional approval making sure <br />the school has the opportunity to understand the fact that Aladdin's will be serving beer and wine. <br />Mr. Nemer said he believes Yours Truly has a permit (although they do not serve.) On a transfer <br />exempt transfer in order for the Liquor Control Division to begin the process, they must first obtain <br />approval from the municipality. <br />Council President Fixler asked if a conditional approval based upon our confirming the school has <br />reviewed this request would be appropriate. <br />Mr. Diemert said he thinks that would be okay. <br />Mr. Busa asked Chief Stevens' opinion. <br />Chief Stevens said the Police Department would have no objection to a permit for dine-in. Their <br />main concern has always been for carry out establishments. <br />Mr. Nemer said they are not trying to have any off-premise consumption, this is solely for <br />consumption on the premises. They do not have any signage or beer lights. There is something on <br />the tables telling what kind of wine and beer. <br />Dr. Parker asked if someone could buy a bottle of wine and drink a glass and take the bottle out. <br />Mr. Nemer said with that type of permit it would be illegal for someone to remove it from the <br />premises. <br />Council President Fixler requested a motion for a conditional approval subject to the school's <br />acknowledging they have received the request. <br />
