Regular Council Meeting
11/16/98
Page 5 '
get the 4-wheel drive and plow package. Two items were not included on the State Bid List for the
Dodge that he feels are relatively important: anti-locking brakes or the towing package which gives
you a heavier rear suspension and spring. Regarding the issue with the warranty--the salesman told
them they don't build emergency vehicles any longer so they don't give extended warranties for
vehicles used for this purpose. That lead him to believe they don't have faith in their vehicles to last
more than 3 years since the other companies still offer the extended warranties.
Chief Mohr said if we took the options (anti-lock brakes and the heavy-duty towing package) with
the Dodge it was $1,580 more than the Chevy.
Council President Fixler asked if it would be fair to say the Chevy is actually the lowest and best bid
for comparable equipment.
Chief Mohr said yes.
Mr. Buckholtz questioned the specific purpose of the truck.
Firefighter Shrefler said it plows their parking lot. (The Service Department is out on the main roads
when the snow falls.) They have also plowed the Village hall lot. The main reason is if they get a
call in the middle of the night and can't get the squad in, the truck goes in first and opens the drive.
Mayor Rinker asked how many times it was used for that purpose--where the response time is
directly affected.
Last year was a light snow year; Chief Mohr said the year before it probably happened 15-20 times.
He could check his records.
Mr. Marquardt said they did not understand the need for a towing package.
Firefighter Shrefler said there is a 10,000 pound trailer in Pepper Pike for hazardous materials. They
can pick it up if they need it.
Chief Mohr said they are part of a foam bank. They have 5-gallon pails of foam they can drop into
the pick-up truck and go to emergency scenes.
Mayor Rinker said the vehicle has multiple purposes; all of which are important.
Mrs. Cinco, seconded by Mrs. Mills, made a motion to authorize an expenditure in an amount not to
exceed $25,000 to Boose Chevrolet & GEO of Brookville Ohio.
Roll Call: AYES: All
NAYS: None Motion Carried
Expenditure Authorized
