Regular Council Meeting
9-27-99
Page 2
Council President Marquardt said Mayfield Village is interested in maintaining the character of
the Village and feels that corner is important to maintaining the character. When the Church said
they were interested in selling, we said we would be interested in buying. We have not decided
how we will use the building. We are open to all comments and suggestions.
Julie Kline, a resident of Euclid, said I see the value of a Church on this corner as being the focal
point and the character of Mayfield Village. In response to that, I called the East Side
Ecumenical Ministry today and they will get back to me about possible churches that might be
interested in purchasing or renting if we so desire.
Wes Marrotte. 6804 Glenview, said as the Council discusses what to do with the building, how
will we residents of the Village be aware of those considerations and plans so that we don't find
4-1/2 years down the road we have no way of influencing. Will it be announced in open
meeting? Will it be part of the open agenda that you have each month ? Or, will it be couched
in discussion of real estate in Executive Session so we won't have any idea what you are talking
about?~
Council President Marquardt said any use of the Church will be discussed in regular council
meetings or Caucus sessions.
Mr. Marrotte asked how it will be announced to the public.
Council President Marquardt said it will be on the agendas which are available. We have Caucus
meetings on the first Monday and we normally have Council Meetings on the third Monday.
Mr. Marrotte-asked if it will be announced as anything other than a real estate discussion?
Council President Marquardt said we address real estate discussions in Executive Sessions as is
provided by law.
Mr. Marrotte said on the agenda it is just referred to as real estate, not as a particular piece of real
estate. Since it does not say Mayfield United Methodist Church, we won't know if that is what
you are talking about.
Mr. Diemert said the Ohio Sunshine Law -and our Charter provides that if you have a particular
subject you are interested in, you write a letter to the Clerk of Council telling her that and giving
her 20 or so self-addressed stamped envelopes. Anytime that subject matter is going to be
discussed by the Planning Commission or Council, you will be given a notice.
Lois Duffy 6714 Glenview Drive, said she. has been a member of the Church since 1955.
Pastors have come and gone and this is the first one who has tried to upset everything. She won't
go out to Caves Road but she will miss it. She could walk to the Church and she would not want
it bought at all.

1
