Regular Council Meeting
11-15-99
Page 11
Mrs. Mills suggested this item go back to Safety & Service, then the Finance Committee for
further discussion.
There were no objections.
Mrs. Mills said there will be a special Wetlands program called Amphibians and Life in Vernal
Pools tomorrow at 7 p.m. in the Community Room. We would like to have some good
participation on that.
Mayor Rinker thanked Council for their vote to ratify our settlement agreement with Midvale.
This puts in place another keystone property. We now own from White Road to the Zako
property except for the Kinnard, Lazzaro and Howarth properties, all of the acreage that lies
immediately adjacent to S.O.M. Center Road between North Commons Boulevard as far south as
that goes, and then what was the old Schulz property that reaches back to I-271. That is a
significant accomplishment of aggregating land which we will be using for Village public
purposes. In the process, resolving that kind of odd situation with Midvale (a platted property
that was put on the record books back in the 1920's before the crash of 1929) and we now have
significant control over the land in that area and out of the process we have an assisted living
facility coming in that looks very nice. It will be a relatively low impact residential development
of 48 units in that area. Given the relationship between the residential homes on the south side
of White and the expansion of Progressive, makes a nice buffer between the two. From a land
use standpoint, we have settled a lot of questions that were plaguing the Village for decades.
There is more to come, but that is a nice accomplishment we can all be proud of.
Mrs. Cinco asked if we got any more information on the Thornapple flooding?
Mr. Metzung said Tom Cappello will have a survey crew out tomorrow to do a site survey.
Mr. Busa said there is about 500' of bike path facing the golf course clubhouse that has been
inundated with water, fungus and algae for over a year.
Mr. Ilacqua said he would echo Mr. Busa's concern. When he walks his dog in the winter, they
hit ice spots.
Mr. Metzung said we have notified the Water Department. They were out about 3 weeks ago
and were out again surveying the site. He will contact therm &$131 ~p See if they Can solve it.
Dr. Parker said he thought Linda Butler's idea of putting up stakes was a good idea. He would
like us try to cover a larger area, maybe have different colored stakes to form an imaginary line
that would give us a better visualization of how different scenarios may affect the width. He
thinks we should follow up on it.
Several people agreed.
