FROM THERMAL APPLICATIONS PHONE NO. 4404230783 Dec. 13 1999 03:33PM P01
.,
Joanne M. Cinco
December ] 3, ] 999
-~ - - The following comments will be submitted to Donna Roman, Clerk of Council, to be
included in the mintttc's of tonight's meeting. There ar•e a number of points I want to
emphasize before the vote on the SOM Center Road widening project.
Two things immediately come to mind t~s an elected official. I am elected and as a council
person I am charged with the responsibility of 1) not only listening, but more importantly
hearing my constituents and 2) acquiring all the information available to answer my
constituents by voting on issues wisely and rationally.
My vote will be td support the recommendation of Pltulning and Zoning Commission, the
Citizens Advisory Committee and the project engineers from URS aremcr - 2S: 4 lanes in
each direction with a 5th continuous lnne to be either paved or landscaped and 3N: 4 lanes
Wlth a.dollblC^Widtll landscaped median in the c:eYtter allowing both single and double left-
turn iancswhere appropriate.
I have attended most public meetings discussing this project to the very end and been nn
site with various home owners to hear what the residents are saying and what the experts
ai~c recommending, With the material and information I have accumulated, this is
unyuesiionably the only Logical and intelligent decision. It encompasses the safety issues
for the entire Village, it achieves futuro development objectives and it enhances the visual
elernenis of such a coi~•idor for those residents directly on SOM Center Road while
allowing the ttaffic flow to be regulated effectively and "calmly." I understand t.hc
objections oi'thosc residents directly impacted by this project. Change is inevitable and
change is here tonight. Ivly responsibility is to the entire community and tp negotiate
suitable compromises for the benefit o1• all.
_ - Many more issues need io be evaluated and discussed as this project. is developed. With
expert guidance and community input, many decisions will be made but not without my
undivided attention. I am requesting from Council Prc:sidc:nt Marquardt pit this time t.o
initiate the creation of an ad hoc SOM Corridor PlanninglZoning Committee as suggested
by Mayor Rinker and I a~n also requested my participation as a Council representati ve on
tlus committee.
T ank you,
.t~a~x-~- ~J
3
