I I? ?
Mr. Amendola stated that.years aga maintaining a road was a relat.ively
simple job in comparison to what it is today.. He said when salt is used
on a ma.cadam road the pavement is forced apart causing moisture and mud
to surface. When it rains, the mud is washed off and the road gradually
drops in elevation. Years ago the EPA allowed the use of drain oil on
dirt roads but it is no longer permitted. Calcium must be used, which is
the most expensive product: He said regarding maintenance, it would not
be a fixed f iguree The current price will be constantly changing.
George Goley:=.865'Lander:Rbad.-.asked if a new gravel road, if.it is
ma.intained, could withstand the pressure of all of our heavy equipment.
Mr. Hovancsek explained the road would.not be a new gravel road.
Mr. Go1ey asked if in.order to make the road functional it would have to
be rebuilt.
Mr. Hovancsek felt that was correct and explained that rebuilding would not
be a simple project.
Mr. Goley said he feels it is important that the Beech Hill residents are
aware that if.a regular maintenance agreement is made they are still not
going to have the road that is necessary for them to have.
Mr. Hovancsek said the chuckholes will be less frequent and less deep.
There would still be a deflection in the pavement base due to traffic and
heavy equipment.
A resident stated Beech Hill does not have much traffic.
Don Gobel, 6830 Seneca, asked if the bridge located where Beech Hill is
extended past the south end of Bonnieview north of Wilson Mills will ever
be taken out for a road to be put through.
Mr. Hovancsek said, as he recalls, some sections of the road are vacated.
The only way it coulcl be rededicated would be by the future property owners
requesting it to be rededicated and another Council accepting it for dedication.
A resident asked what woulcl be done about ditching.
Mr. Hovancsek explained as a result of the sub-standard ditching system that
was done.additional money for erosion control must be spent. The ditches
are now deep enough for a vehicle to have to be towed out.
Mr. Amendola said four.houses on the east side of Beech Hill have removed
leaves from their ditches which created a pocket from one driveway culvert
to another where the water will stand 2- 3 inches deep. Now slag must
be put there to raise the water level so it is able to run out.
