_ ..-,.?
,2_0
MINUTES OF THE REGULAR,MEETING.OF COUNCIL
November 18, 1985
. . Mayf3:eld Village
The,Council of the Village of Mayfield met in Regular SPSSion on Monday,
November 18, 1985; at 8:10 p.m. in the Council Chambers at the Village '
Hall. Council President, Richard C:. Etzler, presicled.
Roll Call: Present: Mrs. Mills, Mr. Etzler, Mr. Flynn, and Mr. Goley
Absent : Mr. Basile
Also Present Were . Mayor Carmeri, Mr. Feneli, Mr. Foltz, Mr. Hovancsek,
Mr. Toth, Chief Stevens, and Chief Hejcl.
The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag was given.
OPEN PORTION
Rita Mikula, 6232 Wilson Mil1s Road - said.publicity is.something she never
appreciated (referring to an article that appeared in the News Herald oii Tuesday,
, November 12, 1985.). She questioned the usual past procedure regarding salary,
qualifications, etc. when anyone is under consideration for employ*ment in PZayfield
Village. If the usual was not followed--why? She asked if the councilperson
who initiated publicity regarding her possible employment was acting in.p.roper
ethical procedure, if he volunteered the information to the press or if the topic
was initiated by a reporter; and if he had reviewed the ordinance stating the
snecifics before he made.remarks? She sai_d she will never regret hav;_n'0'
volunteered to work with the seniors. A.s her appointment was for two yea.rs,
she said she will resign on December 31, 1985. She said she had advised ?r:r.
Etzler, Commission on Aging member and Council liaison, a.short time ago that
she did not plan to accept if she was.asked to.continue. After discussing the
matter he persuaded her to.change her mind and continue in 1986 providing Council
and the Mayor approved. She thanked Mr. Etzler for always helping the Commission
on Aging and herself. Unfortunately, she said she has been put ir. a position
where she can not and she will not.accept either the Human Services Director or
Coordinator for the Commission on Aging under any conditions.
Mrs. Shiela Hanus, 739 SOM Center Road, a member of the Commission on Aging,
said she must also take exception to the article in the paper. She feels it was
demeaning to a11. Mrs. Hanus said that other municipalities pay their coordinators;
why can't.we? Rita has been the coordinator for four years and you might say
she started the Commission on Aging. She has done a fabulous job and the seniors
are wondering what is going to happen to their Commission. She thanked Mr.
Etzler for his help on the Commission._..She..wishes this matter would be resolved,
if there is any way to.resolve it.
Mr. Etzler said he and.the Mayor realize how hard Mrs. Mikula has worked. It
is a shame what went on in the newspapers put her in a demeaning atmosphere
causing her to refuse to continue. He hopes that something can be resolved
in the future.
