6
Mayor Carmen said he understands that Council's initial goal was to bring
employees up to the average and thinks it's a n oble goal. He feels it does
not have to be done in one year. He thinks we must also look at the other
communities tax dollars. He feels other issues should be addressed, such
as long-term planning, additional personnel in the police and fire departments,
etc. '
Mr. Flyn n said the Finance Committee put in a lot of time.in making their
decision. They:checked carefully with the Finance Director, studied reports
and projections.'.He said the Finance Director had no qualms about the
amount of the raise.
Mayor Carmen said the Finance Director has never made a recommendation one
way or another. He just says whether or not enough money is available to
do so.
Discussion was held.
Mayor Carmen said he feels a traff ic light at Beta and SOM will be necessary
in the very near future and other burning traffic.issues need to be addressed.
Mr. Goley said at the Finance Committee meeting, the question posed to the
Finance Director was whether or not it would delete funds and take from other
areas if such an increase was givene His reaction was that there is sufficient
funds for an 827. increase without crippling,Mayfield Village. Another item
discussed at the same meetirig was whether or not to add another policeman or
fireman. They came to the conclusion that.they would like to review this
again in 1986. They have been very conservative in the past when bringing
them up to averagea It is only a couple hundred dollars that puts them in
fifth-sixth place with other communities.
Mayflr Carmen asked where we.were in comparison to other communities tax
revenues and if they were considering long-range planning.
Mr. Goley feels lon.g-range planning is a separate issue and does not feel it
has to do with the increase.
Roll Call: AYES: Mr. Etzler, Mr. Flynn, Mr. Goley, and Mr. Petschauer
NAYS: :Mr. Basile Motion to Reconsider Passed
Mr. Etzler asked if there was any other business.
Mr..Goley said he was contaQted by A11en-Bradley also and would like to set
up a meeting.with them.
Mr. Goley would like to receive an update from Mr. Orkin in Executive Session,
since the hearing is soon.
Mr. Etzler said he will make the necessary arrangements with Mr. Orkin and
Wiii call a speeial meeting to be held in Executive Session.
