89 <br />They could be sued whether or not an ordinance were in effect. Mr. <br />Ginsburg said he felt that Section E was the crux of the ordinance; the <br />workplace is an important part of=our daily lives. <br />Mr. Larry Pollack said there are a number of Mayfield Village residents <br />who feel the way he does. They did not come to this meeting because it <br />was their understanding that this meeting was to discuss what could be done to <br />inflict the least amount of damage to businesses. There are a number of <br />people who could get petitions to pass the ordinance as it is now. He <br />would suggest to'-the business people to look at the ordinance as it is <br />now constituted and txy to modify it to their benefit. He thinks there <br />are alot':of people that would come to a meeting if it were a matter of <br />passing or not passing the ordinance. It was his understanding that Council <br />was very pro ordinance,°and he wanted to make sure that the ordinance passed <br />did not put an undue burden on the businesses. <br />Mr. Etzler said this meeting was set up at the Caucus specifically for <br />discussion of this ordinance, nobody was pro or con. Businesses and anyone <br />else who wished to speak, were.invited for their input. <br />Mr. Flynn said he feels the ordinance needs alot of work, and before he <br />would vote.on it, alot_more input"is needed. <br />Mrs. Schroeder said she checked into the non-smoking rooms. Twelve more <br />rooms are being turned into non-smoking rooms. The cost is $283 to <br />change the rooms to non-smoking. She said. that part of the restaurant will <br />be set aside as non-smoking.. She asked.if.that should also apply to the <br />bar. <br />Mr. Petschauer said he would like toset up a workable time for.representatives <br />of the businesses and Coun.cil to work on this ordinance, paragraph by para- <br />graph, to make it workable for everyone conc.erned. <br />Mr. E.tzler asked if'.:there were any objections to Mr. Goley.and Mz. Petschauer <br />being the Councilpersons to make.that committee. <br />Mayor Carmen said he would be on the committee too, and asked Mr. Basile <br />if he would.join'the committee. <br />Mr. Basile agreed. <br />Mr. Petschauer invited everyone to see him after the meeting if they had <br />any questions. <br />There being no further business, Mr.. Basile, seconded by Mr. Flynn, made <br />a mot.ion to adjourn the meeting. <br />Roll Call: AYES: Al1 <br />NAYS: None <br />Motiori-Carried <br />The meeting adjourned at.9:40 p.m.
