i L:, ?
Regular Council Meeting
8/21/89
Page 8
Mayor Carmen said that Mr. LaConte is willing to sell the golf course.
He would sell it at a price he could receive from an individual he has
a tentative deal with for about 4 million dollars. Mayor Carmen
explained that if he has a bonified offer to purchase the golf course,
it would be used to show the estimate of the value of the property.
Mayor Carmen said that he met with Mr. LaConte and that Mr. LaConte
would be willing to sell to the Village.
Mr. Santoro asked Mayor Carmen if he felt it was feasible.
Mayor Carmen said that Mr. LaConte said the golf course had made about
$30,000 last year and this year year seems to be breaking even.
Mayor Carmen said that he has been investigating to see if someone else
would want to invest in the property to do something such as single-
family homes. The developers are hesitant to invest on that type of
project because it would take them a long time to get their dollars out
of the project. Mayor Carmen said he asked Mr. LaConte how many
apartment units they were considering. Mr. LaConte said they were
looking at about 700-800 apartment units.
Mr. Basile asked what could be done about keeping the layercake zoning.
Many residents have said they do not want apartments and that they
would rather leave it zoned as it is and have office buildings.
Mrs. Mills asked about getting a planner.
Mayor Carmen said he thinks that is too late at this point.
Wheezer's - Mr. Basile said that Wheezer's asked for a parking variance
to put a patio in back of their building. There was not a quorum at
the last Planning and Zoning meeting so it could not be considered.
Hazardous Waste Call - This item was discussed earlier.
Beech Hill - Status Report - Mr. Ramos said that Council will be
receiving a memo this week. The Sewer District anticipates spending
36 million dollars on a new gravity system by 1995. Accordingly, they
do not want to spend $360,000 for a temporary solution to the problem
if it will be torn up in 5 years.
Mr. Basile said he did not think it was reasonable for our residents to
put up with the recurring problem.
Mr. Hovancsek and Mr. Ramos to obtain information and discuss our
options with Council.
Mayor Carmen said the problem we have is that the government has
changed their minds many times about the interceptor sewer. Unless we
have a firm commitment he said that he has no faith in what they are
telling us they will do. Mayor Carmen said that they said they were
willing to put people up in hotels when a problem occurs. Mayor Carmen
said we should push for a hearing.
J
??--`
?
