Special Council Meeting
10/24/89
Page 4
Mr. Ramo said it depends on whether or not the services are essential
or non-essential.
Mayor Carmen asked if she was referring to the leaf pick-up program.
Mr.s. Mikula said yes.
Mayor Carmen said the leaf pick-up program was instituted about 5 years
ago because Council and the Mayor determined to provide a service to
residents. He said they had to do so within the parameters of certain
financial restraints. Mayor Carmen said they have not provided leaf
pick-up to those residents where pick-up would be unsafe and
economically unfeasible. He said that Mr. Amendola and Council have
agreed to Iook at Wilson Mills Road to see what service could be
provided.
Mrs. Mikula asked what the difference is between S.O.M. and Wilson
Mills.
Mr. Amendola said that S.O.M. Center Road has much wider tree lawns and
the grass holds the leaves in place. He said that on Wilson Mills
there is no place to store the leaves and Village personnel would have
to rake the leaves into the machine. We do not have a sewer vacuum.
Mrs. Mikula asked why the Village equipment couldn't have been modified
before leaf pick-up was started so that it could pick up their leaves.
Mayor Carmen said that we have priced that type of equipment and it is
roughly $40,000. He said the dollars are not in our budget.
Mrs. Mikula asked if there couldn't be any other modification.
Mayor Carmen said we would need additional power on the truck.
Mrs. Mikula asked why the Village men couldn't rake the leaves.
Mayor Carmen said there is a liability problem. He said there is no
economic way to do Wilson Mills Road this year. Mayor Carmen said that
we have not found a viable solution to the problem but are looking into
possibilities of what we can do.
Mr. Flynn, seconded by Mr. Basile, made a motion to adjourn.
Roll Call: AYES: Al1
NAYS: None Motion Carried
The meeting adjourned at 8:50 p.m.
?CIL PRESIDENT, gMiTO BASILE
? .
MAYOR, FRED N. CARMEN
CLERK OF C U CIL, DONNA J. HEATH
