67
MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF COUNCII.
VII,LAGE HALL
MAX 18, 1992
The Council of the Village of Mayfield met in Council Chambers on Monday, May 18, 1992 at
8:02 p.m. Council President Bruce Rinker presided.
The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag was given.
Roll Call: Present: Mr. Basile, Mr. Busa, Mrs. Cinco, Mr. Ferrante, Mr. Fixler,
Mr. Flynn, and Mr. Rinker.
Absent: None
Also Present: Mayor Pietrafese, Mr. Amendola, Mr. Diemert, Mr. Toth,
Mr. Woloszynek (Engineer's office), Chief Stevens, Chief Mohr
and Dorothy Martin.
OPEN POIZTION
Mr. Rinker stated that anyone wishing to speak to please state their name and address and limit
their time to five minutes.
Mrs. Kathleen Sullivan of 513 Zorn Lane, said that for the last five and a half years since they have
moved in, the drainage on her property has never been addressed. There aze two sewer lines that
run on each side of her property. They are used to drain 1Vletro Pazk Drive. They are dangerous to
people, particularly to children because of obstruction. They are polluted with raw sewage from
faulty septic tanks. They aze infested, because one side is open with insects and rodents (skunks,
etc.) and they cause her basement to flood when they have heavy rains.
In August of 1986, before the Sullivan's moved in, they met with Mr. Amendola who
came out because her neighbor, Mr. 7ohn Wilson, was putting in a new driveway and wanted to tie
into the drain. They were told "the pipe will take it." They were also told the pipe would be
extended and the cave-ins on the pipe would be repaired. In May of 1987, the Service Department
did come out and repair the cave-ins on her property. With little or no satisfaction from Mayfield
Village, she also contacted Mr. Zorn, (the contractor who put the sewer in), the E.P.A., the
County (who have been out numerous times), T'he Metro Pazk Systems, The Regional Sewer
District and an attorney. She requested a copy of the legal easement from Gus and received a letter
that upon receipt of the informarion, he would see that she is informed. This was dated 1Vlarch of
1991 and they have not yet been informed. They stopped maintaining that sewer somewhere
between 1990 and 1991. In 7une of 1991, it was filled with debris and a number of leaves. They
had a terrible rain fall and at the rime residents on Metro Park I3rive and Zorn Lane had flooding in
their basements. The Service Department was out and working on their property for over two
weeks. It is now May 1992 and she is here to inform Council that you either correct and maintain
the dangerous infested and polluted mess or she will not allow drainage through her property.
Mr. Rinker sta.ted that it is his understanding that there have been a number of people out to try to
troubleshoot what exactly the problem is on her property. What have they advised?
Mrs. Sullivan stated that she has been advised a number of things. One thing that could be done to
eliminate the flooding of her basement was to put in a check valve. It is currently being
researched.
