Regular Council Meeting
2-17-97
Page 8
Mr. Ferrante, seconded by Mrs. Cinco, made a motion to suspend the rules of Council requiring
an ordinance to be read on three separate occasions.
Roll Call: AYES: All
NAYS: None Motion Carried
Rules Suspended
Mr. Ferrante, seconded by Mrs. Cinco, made a motion to enact Ordinance No. 97-08.
Mr. Fenante said he would like to have a report on what it will cost us for the hospitalization
increase.
Mr. Brett will get information to Mr. Ferrante.
DF. Parker said a 12% increase in hospita.lization is high and asked if we did any comparative
shopping. He hasn't seen any increase like that in the large organizations he has worked with.
Mr. Brett said hospitalization was a main point in the police negotiations. When they met with
the FOP, concessions on both sides were given up. One of the concessions given up by the
Village was not to make a change in the insurance. Mr. Brett suggested the hospitalization be
passed as it is now-since they have the option of passing it on a month-to-month basis. It
would be beneficial to have a Health Care Task Force meet and discuss the health care situation.
Couneil President Fixler said this is allowing us a month to month situation now, then we can
look at other situations.
Mr. Brett said the two [FOP contract and hospitalization insurance legislation] are
interdependent.
Roll Call: AYES: All
NAYS: None Motion Carried
Ordinance Enacted
First Reading of Ordinance No. 97-09, entitled; "An emergency ordinance authorizing the
exercise of an option to purchase the Parkview Golf Course." Introduced by Mayor Rinker and
Council as a Whole.
Ordinance No. 97-09 was given first reading.
Ordinance No. 97-05, entitled; "An emergency ordinance creating certain positions and
compensation therefore relevant to the Summer Camp Program." Introduced by Mayor Rinker
and Council as a Whole. (Motion to remove from table and defeat so 97-10 can be enacted.)
