Regular Council Meeting
6-16-97
Page 7
*Consideration of Variance Itequest for a Barn at 6442 Highland Road (Considered by
BOA on 5-20-97)
Mrs. Cinco asked Mr. and Mrs. Monaco, in the audience, if they wished to address this.
Mr. Monaco said they have discussed this with all their neighbors. No one has a problem with it.
1Vlost have barns of this size. He has 3 acres of land and needs the extra room to store la.wn
equipment, et cetera. He has a 3-car garage now and is able to fit one car into it. He does not
want to build a gazage in his back yard because that would require a concrete slab and a footer
and a permanent structure. He is proposing a prefab storage barn which can be easily removed if
he should sell his house. Mr. Monaco described his lot which is a narrow, deep lot that is set back
almost 500' from the road. His next door neighbor would be the anly one who could see the
proposed barr-and his neighbor has no objection. (The-neighbor was in the audience.) Mr.
Monaco said he has a letter signed by surrounding neighbors saying they have no problem with
the proposed barn. (The letter was given to the Clerk of Council and will be attached to the
minutes as a permanent record.)
Mrs. Cinco said the floor is open for Council's comments.
Mr. Ferrante asked if any portion of the building is in the portion of the proposed rezoning.
Mr. IVlonaco said it is still in the residential portion but is right next to the commercial section. (It
will be approximately 300-400' from the commercial property.)
Mayor Rinker asked Mr. Samac if he has reviewed the information about the prefab barn.
Mr. Samac said it is a typical prefabricated type of barn structure. There are a lot of similar
structures n the axea. Depending on the type of base the homeowner chooses-if it is other than
concrete, we require the use of anchoring bolts.
Mayor Rinker asked if Mr. Samac is satisfied with the proposai.
Mr. Satnac said for what it provides it will be adequate and safe. These structures usually last
about 20 years if properly maintained.
Mr. Monaco noted the Board of Appeals did not turn this down-they did not have the authority
to grant that type of variance.
Mr. Samac said two variances are involved.
1) A height variance of 1'. (They aze proposing a 16' structure; the maximum height for
an accessory type building is 15'.)
