Regular Council Meeting
9-18-00
Page 9
median basically in a block. (We are talking that stretch between Highland and Metro.) The only
other point that I would make, apart from the fact that last week we heard for the first time that the
starting point was St. Bartholomew and it had always been discussed that it would be somewhere
north of Hickory and I never heard any reasons as to why that shift went from somewhere simply
north of Hickory because starting at St. Bartholomew's. Maybe there was some discussion at
another meeting that I missed.
Mr. Ilacqua said we brought that up a couple of times. We discussed that a couple of times picking
the church drive as a point that does not infringe on anyone's driveway access.
Mayor Rinker said again, the drawing that was presented at the last Caucus reflected exactly what
Mr. Abate had gotten from his neighbors and showed the median a little bit south of St.
Bartholomew's. The only point that I would like this record to reflect is that every other
recommendation of that Committee has come before this Council has been treated and voted upon as
a recommendation and I may stand corrected there but I think every single recommendation has been
approved. This one, historically, Council has the difficult time dealing with the median. Between
Planning and Zoning, Citizen's Advisory, the S.O.M. Center Road Widening Committee itself and
the feedback we have gotten from a lot of residents collectively, there is a more popular position that
I suggest favors what has been drawn by Mr. Buchanan that was presented to this Council
previously. I think it would be a shame for this body once again to ignore that record.
Council President Marquardt asked if there were any other comments.
There were no further comments.
Council President Marquardt requested a roll call for Option 2: for a median as shown from
Highland Road to White Road as the intent is suggested on the drawing Council saw at the Caucus
Meeting.
Roll Call: AYES: Mr. Buckholtz, Mrs. Cinco, Mrs. Mills
NAYS: Mr. Busa, Mr. Ilacqua, Mr. Marquardt, Dr. Parker
Motion Not Carried
3. Median on S.O.M. Center Road starting north of St. Bartholomew Church drive
running north with breaks approximately every 100-200' (location/details to be
determined) to White Road
Council President Marquardt clarified the motion. [Additional verbiage added to the motion than
what appeared on agenda.]
Mr. Busa, seconded by Mr. Ilacqua, made a motion to adopt Option #3 (for a median on S.O.M.
Center Road starting north of St. Bartholomew Church drive running north with breaks (breaks
approximately every 100-200' location/details to be determined) to White Road.
