Regular Council Meeting
11-20-00
Page 2
STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS
Activities Committee -Mrs. Roman reported the Committee invites everyone to attend the tree
lighting ceremony on the first Sunday in December. We will be planning for the Appreciation
Dinner at the end of February.
Architectural Review Board - Mr. Samac was not present; no report. (Mr. Samac had included a
report for the ARB & BOA in the last Council packet.)
Board of Appeals -Mrs. Mills reported from Mr. Samac's report that a variance at 6751
Sandalwood was considered and not approved. The remodeling for the Shell gas station was
approved by a 3-2 vote.
Cemetery -Mrs. Mills reported that Edna Malle was buried in plot #80 on November 7th. It was
a unique situation because her plot was not a big enough burial plot so the mortuary had her
cremated and she is now entombed in her family plot. Mrs. Mills said she has notified Highland
Heights, Mayfield Heights and the Historical Society of the burial. The Horticulture students
worked at the Cemetery.
Citizen's Advisory Board -Mrs. Cinco reported the Citizen's Advisory Committee attended the
forum on the ballot issues.
Commission on A~in~ - Mr. Busa read the report from Mrs. Kalina (attached to the minutes.)
Safety and Service -Mrs. Cinco said the Committee met November 13. Most issues were
discussed at Caucus and were on tonight's Finance Committee agenda. They discussed the
following: heating repairs for Village Hall; community room doors (recommended); sunset for
part-time Building Inspector (recommended); breathalyzer and 3 police cars for the Police
Department (recommended); at this time we will keep the personnel item and manpower needs
for the Fire Department on the Safety and Service agenda; sanitary sewer at 872 Worton Park
(recommended) Thornapple sewer (recommended) underground storage tanks; floor coating at
the Service Building (the floor is deteriorating badly from the road salt--they are expecting
approximately $10,000 for the material but the Service Department will apply the material);
safety issues re leaf pick-up were discussed and geese droppings were discussed.
Finance Committee - Dr. Parker said the Committee discussed and recommends approval of
items #1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 9, 10 and 11. Re #5, the Committee discussed and voted to defer action
pending further discussion; re #7, the Committee suggested we evaluate the cost of our programs
and compare that to the income brought in so we can see how well our dollars are being spent
and recommended approval of this item.

1
Hillcrest Council of Councils -Mrs. Cinco said they held a breakfast meeting on October 21.
