Regular Council Meeting
12-18-00
Page 10
Council President Marquardt asked if there were any comments.
There were no comments.
ANY OTHER MATTER THAT MAY COME BEFORE COUNCIL
There were no other matters before Council.
CLOSING COMMENTS
Council President Marquardt said we wanted to mention that Councilman Wally Ferrante passed
away last week. He asked for a moment of silence in Wally's memory.
Chief Stevens thanked Council for its support and backing in making the signal preemption system
(Opticom) come to fruition. He thinks history will look back at this as one of the most significant
steps the community can take to protect lives and property and prevent traffic crashes related to the
passage of emergency vehicles through congested intersections. This is something former Fire Chief
Hejcl, Chief Mohr and he have dreamed about. He thanked Chief Mohr for spearheading this effort.
By having this equipment on the safety vehicles, we will improve our response time. We will get to
the scene faster by driving slower and get the victims to the hospital faster.

Chief Mohr said there was a house fire on Washington Extension Tuesday morning. The smoke
detectors saved the family's life. The wind storm caused an electrical short which set their basement
on fire unbeknownst to them until their smoke detectors went off. There was smoke to their ankles;
they called from a neighbor's house.
Several Council members and officials extended holiday wishes.
Mrs. Mills thanked Department Heads for putting up with the Garden Club, Historical Society and
everything she gets them into. She appreciates their help.
Mr. Brett said Mayor Rinker had told him this morning that he would not be able to make it. He did
not relay that to Donna because he had called home on emergency. Mayor Rinker had said he would
most likely not make tonight's meeting because of business in Strongsville.
Council President Marquardt said he will see everyone tomorrow night for another meeting. He said
he never received an explanation as to why we couldn't vote on that tonight.
Mr. Diemert said there had to be two public hearings before you adopted it or it wouldn't meet State
law. The second and last of them is tonight.
Council President Marquardt said we will be here tomorrow at 7:00 p.m.
Mrs. Cinco said she is a new grandmother. She got a new first granddaughter on Friday.
Mr. Busa thanked the Village Hall for lowering the flag for Mr. Ferrante.
