Regular Council Meeting
2-18-08
Page 11

Mrs. Mills, seconded by Mrs. Cinco, made a motion to adopt Resolution No. 2008-07.
Council President Buckholtz asked if there was any discussion.
Mr. Marquardt asked if there is any Village participation in this monetarily. Mr. Brett said there
was not. Council President Buckholtz asked if this is strictly going for an $800,000.00 grant for
redevelopment at 600 Beta Drive. Mr. Brett indicated that was correct.
Mayor Rinker added that Phillips was the last longstanding tenant there, so we refer to it
colloquially as the Phillips Building. It is right at the bend in the road on Beta Drive on the
northwest corner of the outside of the curve next to 271. There have been a lot of efforts over
the past few years to try to retrofit the building. It has been gutted because the conventional
wisdom at the time was that might work well. As it turned out we were aware of at least one
potential buyer who would have liked having the old offices. Where this will come in handy is it
shows that we are trying a number of different tools in looking for redevelopment of Beta
overall. In this instance, the fact that we can work this out, Mayor Rinker credits Ted and Phil
for a rather eclectic search looking for another way that we might be able to leverage dollars.
Stay tuned. Hopefully this will bear fruit.
ROLL CALL: AYES: All
NAYS: None
Motion Carried
Resolution Adopted
First Reading of Resolution No. 2008-08, entitled "An emergency resolution in support of
Issue 6, the Mayfield City School District proposed 6.9-mill operating and permanent
improvement levy." Introduced by Mayor Rinker and Council as a Whole.
Mr. Saponaro, seconded by Mrs. Mills, made a motion to adopt Resolution No. 2008-08.
Council President Buckholtz asked if there was any discussion. We have always supported the
school in the past. We should do so now.
Mayor Rinker stated that there are a lot of communities that seem to struggle with these. We
understand a lot of the logistics that every new levy and any raise in millage always presents to
every voter. We have come to appreciate the fact that our school district is an essential asset to
the community. We can all have competing views on how different administrations operate. The
bottom line is that we really do need to support our school district. Mayor Rinker is proud of the
fact that Mayfield Village consistently has done it. It is a testament to our commitment to our
community. Hopefully they won't have to come back too often. We are putting our best foot
forward.
ROLL CALL: AYES: All
NAYS: None Motion Carried
Resolution Adopted
