Regular Council Meeting
2-18-08
Page 7

Motion to terminate service provided by Reed's Lawn Service to May#ield Village as
of January 25, 2008 to residents enrolled in the senior snow removal program (50
drives) (Straw poll taken 2/4/08).
Mr. Saponaro, seconded by Mrs. Mills, made a motion to terminate service provided by Reed's
Lawn Service to Mayfield Village as of January 25, 2008 to residents enrolled in the senior snow
removal program (50 drives) (Straw poll taken 2/4/08).
Council President Buckholtz asked if there was any discussion.
Mayor Rinker stated this has been previously discussed on the record. For purposes of the
record tonight, it is important to note the following, especially with some residents present.
Mayor Rinker cannot recall a comparable decision having to have been made by Mayfield
Village in all of the time that we have had the snowplow program. The one other time we have
lost a contractor in mid-season was after the snowstorm of November 1996 which anyone could
say was a freak occurrence. The contractor at that time just basically surrendered. He got wiped
out. On a more serious note, this is one where we all should recognize that the Village went out
of the way to document what was going on, trying to give this provider every opportunity to
prove itself. Reed's was new to our program. Mayor Rinker does not think they fully
appreciated the commitment that they really had to make even though it was spelled out. We
never like to have to terminate a contract under any circumstance, but this is one where serving
the residents really was very important. That is the consensus of Council. While this is a
program that is often difficult to manage and a lot of times when residents call in expectations
are often somewhat different for some people, we generally work through those issues. This is
one where in all honesty we felt this was the best`decision to make. Mayor Rinker appreciates
the fact that Council has recognized that and that we are moving forward in making sure that we
maintain a program that serves people well.
Roll Call: AYES: All
NAYS: None
Motion Carried
Service Terminated
Motion to authorize acceptance of bid and expenditure not to exceed $6,000.00 to
A&G Landscape for snowplow service to residents enrolled in the senior snow
removal program (50 drives) (Actual dollar amount payable to A&G for these
additional 50 drives for the rest of the season will not exceed $6,000.00 but the
additional expenditure on the part of the Village as a result of the change in
contractors is approximately $1,800.00 more.) (Straw poll taken 2/4/08).

Mr. Saponaro, seconded by Mrs. Mills, made a motion to authorize acceptance of bid and
expenditure not to exceed $6,000.00 to A&G Landscape for snowplow service to residents
enrolled in the senior snow removal program (50 drives) (Actual dollar amount payable to A&G
for these additional 50 drives for the rest of the season will not exceed $6,000.00 but the
