Regular Council Meeting
3-17-08
Page 13
are looking at approximately the same assessment impact regardless of the project and regardless
of the neighborhood. That is easier said than done.
What we have encountered in the Eastgate/Meadowood area probably for about 7 years
now was to try a variety of ways to get what is now known as State Issue I funding with limited
success. With Thornapple pump which is something that the County needs to replace for its
forced main system and in order to take advantage of now adding some gravity component to it,
we have been trying to figure out just what the sel vice area would be. That is something that Tom
has been working on. We discussed it amongst ourselves. Inevitably that is something that is
going to impact residents. We don't think that Eastgate or Meadowood will be amenable to the
sewer project in this phase and in fact it looks like those two streets will be the last two in our
overall sewer program. Echo probably will never be sewered. That would be the other one. We
think the Thornapple pump is going to include Ravine, Robley and a portion of Thornapple.
Since we don't have that definition yet, we have been a little reluctant to go out there because
every time we open our mouth, we get misunderstanding. On the other hand, if people are not
hearing anything and there is a misunderstanding, then that obviously is not any good either.
What we will do is we will plan to schedule a neighborhood meeting in the next month to month
and a half and try to address all of this. We will get the word out to everyone, go through it and
be able to answer those questions more definitively. When we do these meetings, not only would
Tom be there, but department heads, Council, the Board of Health and the County Sanitary
Engineer's office would be included. We really try to get through the detail and reinforce the
message that we have always delivered which is that individual residents, whoever are affected
now or later, will be looking at the same lcind of impact. In terms of timeframe, we don't have
that nailed down yet either. We are right at the point where we should know within the next
month to month and a hal£ We will get the word out. It is a good point.
The other point Mr. Saponaro would like to raise involves a conversation with the
Mangeluzzis who live on Ridgebury. If you recall, they were the people who came here because
their son was almost hit by a car. They have the property that adjoins the walkway into Mayfield
High School. They have people pulling in and out. They provided an update on what has been
going on. It is just as bad as it has been in the past. It is difficult to police. It is difficult to deal
with. There has to be some sort of resolution. He got one part of the story. He advised that he
would bring it to Council and see what we can do. Mayor Rinker added there has been history to
it. We can look at it again, but he is not real optimistic. We are always trying to see if there is
any way we can reconcile conflict, but this one is unique and challenging.
Mr. Marquardt advised that he received a few complaints about A&G relative to their
senior snowplow service. We should take that into account. They are not plowing the entire
driveway. We should put that in the notes for consideration next year. Mayor Rinker asked if
they called into us. Mr. Marquardt advised that they called him and Mr. Marquardt called Jeff.
They came out and cleaned up the driveways by widening them out. Some of them could not get
their car in the garage. It was several driveways.
Mr. Marquardt thanked Mr. Brett for the updated spreadsheet.
