Regular Council Meeting
4-21-08
Page 12
construction, you are really not saving anywhere near $144,000.00. The same thing goes for the
bay. If we are going to do it, let's do it so we don't have to go back and start adding and doing
things later.
Mrs. Mills indicated that we want an all-brick building. We don't have to redraw that. It
is drawn as all brick now.
Mr. Marrie stated that the architect indicated that it would cost $25,000.00 to submit new
drawings. Some of the savings have gone down the tube. Dr. Parker replied not a whole lot.
When you look at $144,000.00 and $62,000 and $120,000.00 and $64,000.00, those are big
numbers. He is not including the HVAC. It does not make sense to spend $25,000.00 to save
$50,000.00, but to spend $25,000.00 to save $600,000.00, that makes sense. Mr. Marrie
indicated that he did not insinuate that at all.
Council President Buckholtz stated that if in Finance, the committee pretty much was in
agreement to keep the storage space and the garage bay, the footprint remains the same. That is
no major redrawing.
On the vinyl issue, although Council President Buckholtz has spoken to most everyone,
he does not want to speak for people, it seemed to be a consensus that no one cares for the vinyl.
Just so we get that out and are not back where we were before. We have discussed this at
Caucus, we have had a couple of weeks, Council President Buckholtz contacted everyone during
that time. He visited with Tommy not knowing if he would be here tonight. Council President
Buckholtz got a feel for where everyone is at. We are clearly going to rack up some cost
savings. There are some modifications that are going to be put into this bid package, not the
redraw, two different things, but there will be these modifications that save money and all of
these little points. Council President Buckholtz asked Chief Dearden if he is fine with those,
they are from his original list.
Chief Dearden stated he would like everyone to step back a moment. You really can't go
out for bids without modifying the plans to illustrate the way we are going to build it. So, quite
honestly, the fewer changes or modifications that we draw into this project now, the less
expensive it is going to be. The architects quoted about $25,000.00 if we instituted all of these
changes. That is not what he is hearing, if Council is saying that from the standpoint of the vinyl
siding they are not interested in seeing that type of an exterior, obviously that lessens the amount
of work that the architects have to go back and do.
Council President Buckholtz asked if in the case of piping, would that require a redraw?
Chief Dearden stated it would not be a redraw, it would just simply be a change in the
specifications within that framework of those drawings.
Dr. Parker asked if when the drawings are done, do they need to indicate the types of
hangars on the drawings and the location. Won't that be affected by the type of piping used?
Mr. Marrelli stated it is. Dr. Parker added that really they still need to do the redraws on that
because these contractors will charge you for every little hangar. Mr. Marrelli stated that they
