Regular Council Meeting
5-19=08
Page 3
PARKS & RECREATION - Bill Thomas
Mr. Thomas reported that Mayfield Schools are doing major construction at all schools this
summer on their bathrooms, parking lots, driveways and window replacement. Three of our
summer camps will be affected by the closure of three of the schools. After researching other
available locations, we were fortunate to be able to receive approval to use St. John's Lutheran
Church for our Junior Camp. We also needed space for 150 campers who normally use the high
school. Thank you to Tom Marrie for helping out. As of 4:00 p.m. today, we will be able to use
St. Francis School for Sports `N More Camp. We are still trying to find two more locations for
our sports specialty camps for track and basketball. Teen Adventure Camp will be housed out of
Mayfield Heights Park.
ARCHITECT - Ron DiNardo
There was nothing to report.
HUMAN SERVICES - Eunice Kalina
Mrs. Kalina reported that the seniors enjoyed the Youngstown trip. We hit the jackpot on this
one. The seniors went to the Butler Museum of American Art. They had lunch there. They also
went to the Planetarium at Youngstown State University. It was a delightful day. We sold out
and had a waiting list. We might have to do it again. We are also preparing for our Anniversary
Party on May 31St. All are welcome to stop by from 1:00-4:00. Hillcrest Meals on Wheels'
Volunteer Thank You luncheon is scheduled this week. They are celebrating their 25th year
Anniversary of being in the Hillcrest Community. We have a resolution of recognition on the
agenda this evening for consideration by Council.
STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Activities Committee - Mrs. Mills reported that they had a wonderful pancake breakfast. 810
people were served. Mr. Marquardt should receive an award for the best pancake turning.
Summer concerts are in place. We are honing in on Cruise Night and July 4th . We have a
meeting scheduled for this Wednesday.
Architectural Review Board - Mr. Marrelli reported that Architectural Review Board met last
Thursday. They discussed and approved new signage at Heinen's.
Beautification- Mr. Saponaro reported that the Beautification Committee met on May 12th. The
minutes are attached to the notice for the next meeting. The Committee discussed agenda
preparation and the need for having structure in place. The Committee will continue to work on
that. The Committee also discussed the bike paths, benches and trees on I-271. Thank you to
Jean Britton and Carole Marrie for all of their hard work. The hanging baskets were discussed.
