Regular Council Meeting
8-18-08
Page 2
so that these kind of efforts would be a founding position so that each one of the community
members who become more and more agitated and distressed right now are concerned that our
representation is being limited. We need the Village government to step up as a collective and
prevent each of us from getting pitted against each other. That was our understanding of what
the Village was going to do for us.
One of the concerns at the last meeting was that over and over they were told, that's a lot of
hassle, that is going to be very difficult. We did not consider that. That's not being done. We
are not looking at that because it's too hard.
This is a major affect on his family's life. He spent 12 hours in the yard yesterday spreading
mulch. If he ends up with an oil well that is taking the smell and enjoyment out of the Village at
his neighbor's house because we did not do anything we could, he and the neighbors that don't
get the well are going to be extremely disturbed and extremely upset.
They have taken some time and gone over some of the rules and regulations that surround the
ability to put in the oil wells. One of the things that they found is you have to have 300 feet of
clearance from the edgeline of the unit in order to put in a well. We don't know who to talk to
about whether or not all of the units have been collected properly. We as a group of citizens turn
to you for guidance. We ask you to look out for us. That is why we hire you. That is why we
bring you in here, to represent us. We need a better understanding of the rules, better than
maybe we can provide on our own.
Part of what we need to know is who is getting involved in the wells, not because we want to go
to them individually necessarily but because right now we are hearing the majority of the Village
does not want it in the residences. They don't want it in their backyard. They don't want their
kids to be playing on the oil wells because that is all the toys they got. He realizes that is
ridiculous, but his point is still the same. We need help in this and we are turning to you for that
help because we look to you as our centralized government to represent us so that we hope that
in your decisionmaking and desires you are going to represent us all in that idea of a centralized
cohesive unit.
We think that there needs to be more information out and we need to get more community
involvement. We need your help to do that. Because right now, from what he knows, no one
wants these oil wells except for the individual people who are not here. He has not heard anyone
come up and say, this is the best thing for the Village. Everyone has said, we are stuck with it.
There is nothing we can do or it is too hard. He does not want those things. Tell us what we need
to do. We are at this point seeking your help. Mr. Hehr appreciates the time.
Mr. Marrie thanked Mr. Hehr for speaking.
I'
?I
,
