Regular Council Meeting
8-18-08
Page 4
15 minutes every day backs up at two different facilities. That is one of the items on the agenda
this evening.
The Beautification Committee is meeting on Monday. The Mayor got a letter from some
residents on Eastgate. He talked to Doug about this recently. Some time ago he received
inquiries from that neighborhood, Thornapple, Eastgate and Meadowood inquiring about a
gateway entrance. As we have done with every association, we have encouraged them to come
up with some kind of plan. The bottom line is Doug is going to be talking with guys in the
Service Department. We have not gotten any feedback from the homeowner's association there.
Mrs. Mills stated that she talked to two of the residents there. They just don't know how to go
about designing.
Mayor Rinker stated we will propose something to them. It is one of those things where we try to
be pretty liberal about it, come up with an idea and get some ideas. Some people had talked
about stanchions similar to what was there before.
Mrs. Mills added that we have to be careful because in the area you would want to put that there
is a working trap door. They go down in that area. Mrs. Mills said when we purchased that
property, she went to Doug and asked him what he wants her to do and he said, let's wait and we
will decide what to do.
Mayor Rinker indicated he is updating everyone based on that discussion. He talked with Doug
last week and indicated we should come up with some kind of design like we did with Joyce and
some other streets. Because we have a property there, Mayor Rinker thought it would make life a
lot simpler. The parcel that we purchased is undeveloped. If there is a trap door, we don't want
to build anything on that. Mayor Rinker just wanted Council to be aware of this. What we will
try to do is come up with some ideas. It might be something where the Beautification Committee
might be a facilitator of further dialogue.
Mr. Saponaro asked if this came through Kenwood.
Mayor Rinker stated that he remembers talking with these folks previously. They are trying to
keep on top. All they want to know is that we are going to do something and rather than saying,
"Well, we expected you all to come to us", we are going to go to them.
Mr. Saponaro asked for the information. Mayor Rinker said it will be provided to him and
everyone else.
Mr. Saponaro asked what the trap door is. Mr. Marrie said it is gas. Mayor Rinker stated that
obviously we are not going to invest in any kind of improvement there unless we know we have a spot. The thought would be that it would compliment what is on the southeast corner and try to
recapture some ideas of what was there once before. There used to be some kind of brick or
masonry type of pillar there some time ago.
