Regular Council Meeting
10-20-08
Page 9

Dr. Parker said in case we have a hard winter and need the salt, what about where the park is
spending less, are they getting it from the same vendor? Can we contact them? Mayor Rinker
replied this organization has done it. The early word we got back is that they were not even
going to honor contracts at all depending on the vendors that you had. There were different
consortia. We joined NEOSO. Candidly what it looked like is they probably overplayed their
hand in negotiating this thing. What we are getting is pushback from the companies because we
went into a consortium with the goal of reducing bargaining power. It turned out not to be
effective this year. Other places, such as Middleburg Heights, landed some contract. The fact is
we are going to find some of those disparities. Sometimes they are next door like the parks are.
Mayor Rinker echoes what everyone here says, keep looking if there are some other
contingencies that we have. It just does not look like they are out there. They have been looking.
Mr. Metzung said we are fortunate to have it. We are in better shape than many.
Reporting on the snowplow program, Mrs. Mills stated that there are 280 residents signed up so
far. When the snow flies, the phone will be ringing. Last year we had 349 signed up. Mayor
Rinker said the peak was probably just a little north of 400 a few years ago. Mrs. Mills said it
seems like since we instituted the opt-out, that changed the situation. Jeff could not give me the
figures on that yet because he said usually those people are calling in. Jeff is on top of this.
Roll Call: AYES: All
NAYS: None
Motion Carried
Expenditure Authorized
Motion to authorize expenditure in the amount of $7,200.00 to Cuyahoga Valley
Scenic Railroad for Polar Express excursions on Wednesday, November 19 (two
coaches) and Thursday, November 20 (one coach) ($30.00 per person; pass
through).
?-?
?
?L
Mr. Saponaro, seconded by Dr. Parker, made a motion to authorize expenditure in the amount of
$7,200.00 to Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad for Polar Express excursions on Wednesday,
November 19 (two coaches) and Thursday, November 20 (one coach) ($30.00 per person; pass
through).
Council President Buckholtz asked if there was any discussion. There were no comments.
Roll Call: AYES: All
NAYS: None
Motion Carried
Expenditure Authorized
Motion to authorize expenditure in an amount not to exceed $2,600.00 to Digest
Media for Winter Parks and Recreation brochure.
Mr. Marrie, seconded by Dr. Parker, made a motion to authorize expenditure in the amount not
to exceed $2,600.00 to Digest Media for Winter Parks and Recreation brochure.
