Regular Council Meeting Minutes
12-15-08
Page 2
COMMENTS FROM MAYOR RINKER:
Mayor Rinker stated that he would be remiss if he did not thank and congratulate Patsy Mills for ?
yet another wonderful job marshalling all of the elves and other Santa's helpers for the
decorations. Really everything is just gorgeous around the Village. We get a lot of compliments.
It is really striking. It looks very very picturesque, very nice. Also, thank you to the Service
Department. He is sure they love when every seasonal event comes around and you come
knocking on their door. There are no grinches in the Service Department.
Mayor Rinker added that with the holidays being such a time of reflection, this is one of them.
He wished to announce tonight that effective December 31St of this year, Phil Brett who has been
our Finance Director and Economic Development Director for 16 years is effectively retiring.
This is going to be a big change. He will remain for the next couple of years as a consultant, but
we are going to have to replace him and those are big shoes to fill.
It is also somewhat symbolic that tonight one of many legacies in which Phil has had a hand
offering keen insight and some intelligence to a lot of the projects that we have had and there is
one for consideration for Council tonight and that involves installation of a fiber ring. There are
actually three separate ordinances. Ted Esborn provided a pretty definitive packet. There are
some other questions that have been raised. All in all, this is a symbolic moment for us as we are
looking to a couple of lean years ahead regionally and nationally. This is an investment in ?
infrastructure that will stand the test of time.
COMMENTS FROM COUNCIL PRESIDENT BUCKHOLTZ:
Council President Buckholtz welcomed Mr. Steigerwald, a high school student. He is here observing
a Council meeting. We are glad you are here and hope you learn something today about being
involved in government or how government works.
Council President Buckholtz asked if anyone had any comments about the proposed schedule for next
year as far as the meetings are concerned. There were no comments. We will leave it as stands.
DEPARTMENT HEAD REPORTS:
SERVICE - Douglas Metzun?
Mr. Metzung reported that leaf season will be coming to a close probably tomorrow. We went
through the Village today. A few landscapers were still out. We will go back out tomorrow.
BUILDING - John Marrelli
Mr. Marrelli reported that Heinen's is in their fmal stages getting final inspections. Hopefully
you have been in the store to see the big changes. It is coming along really nicely. It is just about
done.
