Regular Council Meeting
2-16-04
Page 11
r 1 somebody this evening because they've got to go out and get our bids and it's March 315t that we
have to renew. We don't have a lot of time-we let the employees hear them on Friday and then
to listen to what they wanted and not kind of vote for who they think they want-I don't know
how that speaks. I don't know that one is going to save us a whole heck of a lot more than
another; I think they are going to come in even.
o?.

Council President Buckholtz said I did attend the Health Care Task Force meeting last Monday.
It was a small but very appreciative representation of Village employees. It was clear from that
group that everyone was interested in a change in who represents us in insurance. It is also
abundantly clear that in the sense of rates in dealing with-it is not like buying a car-the rates
come in the same-the programs come in the same-it is not a great situation out there;
however, I too was very impressed as were the other members of the Health Care Task Force-
everyone was impressed with Ted Kravec for that very same reason. To reinforce and to
rearticulate what Joanne is saying now, we were glad that the employees that were there that they
were being asked because this is an issue so close to something-a difficult thing that they deal
with on a daily, weekly or monthly basis-that we decided to throw this quick meeting together
for Friday and let them meet the two people that seemed best suited to come in as a change. I
wasn't at the meeting and haven't read through the whole minutes. I have to agree that we are
still jumping on something quickly that is such a close to heart issue. I just wonder if waiting a
little bit on this, reading through it, discussing it-I agree with Joanne in the sense that to have
empowered the employees and brought them all in and said we want you to vote on it; we want
to know what you feel; you have to deal with these people and for them to vote on it and us to
counter just-in a rush-and what Mr. Marquardt is saying-why are we rushing on this? We
have the April lst deadline but we've pushed this before. It is my understanding that our March
Caucus may end being a special meeting for other reasons. Is there any reason-I wish Phil was
here to answer this-but, Donna or Diane, do you know if there is any reason if we would pass
the Agent of Record at the March 8th meeting, if we could still get packages back:
Mrs. Roman said I don't know how long it would take them but could ask them (tomorrow.)
Council President Buckholtz said I think we need to table this for tonight and read through it and
talk to the people that met and really give it some serious consideration. I don't know that
anybody could bring in a better rate but Mr. Marquardt is certainly following the lead here that if
we could work with other communities and work with people that are tapped into what other
communities are doing, that is what we want to do on as many things as we can. Would that
work for people?
There were no comments or objections.
Council President Buckholtz asked for a motion to table this.
Mr. Saponaro, seconded by Dr. Parker, made a motion to table the appointment of the Agent of
Record.
