Council President Buckholtz said the
special meeting, or we will find out tomorrow-and if we need to reconvene, we will reconvene
to come to terms with it.
Council President Buckholtz asked, any further discussion?
There were no comments.
ROLL CALL: AYES: All
NAYS: None Consideration of Appointment of Agent of Record Tabled.
• 12ubbish/Recycling Bid Update
Council President Buckholtz asked Mr. Metzung, you are not looking for a motion?
Mr. Metzung said no; I am not looking for a motion this evening. I want to discuss the bid
summaries. Councilman Marquardt requested knowing what these numbers are. They do
represent per home, per month. Mayfield Village has 1,200 homes that we base our bid on so
multiply these numbers by 12 and then by 1,200 and it would give you the total for the year. Just
going over the bid summary, the first 4 items are for current service on the same days; the J&J
Refuse alternate would include changing some days. I don't know that that's an area the Village
would be interested in doing. I don't know-understanding how the bids are based--Highland
Heights has 3,200 homes that they pick up in 4 days. That is more of a 5-day pick-up as I
understand it for most rubbish contractors. Thursday, Highland Heights does 2 routes. That kind
of screws up the rubbish company's ability to assign trucks. That is why the J&J Refuse alternate
would include changing days. Whether they' d want to change any of our days, I don't know. It
may just be a case of they'd want Highland Heights to go to a 5-day. For Highland Heights, the
alternate may be significant-as much as $45,000 over the life of the contract. It may be
something that they look at. It would be certainly something that we would look at-should that
be the case that we don't change anything--and Highland Heights goes to a 5-day pick-up and we
look to see what that would leave us-it would leave us approximately $11,000 over the 5 yeaxs
of the contract. I've never heard of J&J but they have many references from areas south of
Aurora and may be just trying to get into this area.
Mr. Metzung said the other item he'd like to discuss tonight is the 96-gallon toter. Bids are fairly
close from Waste Management which would be the lowest bid of our regular pick-up so we don't
change anything; we are looking at approximately $11,000 over the life of the bid or $2,200 per
year to provide the toters. That breaks down to $46/toter for the company to provide toters to
each residence. He showed Council a toter. It is easier to store, a more uniform look on the
street. Bid specs wouldn't require anyone to have a toter. Should you have a collection that
everything doesn't fit into the toter, set it alongside the toter and it will be picked up. The toters
come in a smaller size also; residents would have the choice.
Mr. Marquardt asked how Waste Management was the cheapest.
