Regular Council Minutes
5-17-04
Page 17
Council President Buckholtz said I would just chime in and say-and Phil, correct me if I am
wrong because you've met with these people-this is totally-I understand what you are saying-
-that previously that quite often there are stepping stones that lead to more of an obligation than
what is here. That is not necessary.
Mr. Marrie said we have not agreed to any other obligation whatsoever
Council President Buckholtz said this is a component where they are offering to give us a basis
of what our needs, our assessment, whatever, so....
Mr. Marrie said I don't know what the future brings, Bill and I am not going to make a statement
as to what's coming down here 6 years from now. There is no way in the world I would make
that statement. All I am saying is it is the first step. We have made no agreement to any other
fees or to any other thing. I think, like anything else-especially in this technology end of it-
we've just got to take one step at a time. As you, I think, to use your words: let's not find a cure
for something we don't know what the problem is. That was your discussion last time and I
believe Joe mentioned the same thing. All I am trying to say is this is all we are trying to do;
we're trying to stop this and go one step at a time. And I think this is the first step. No
agreement whatsoever has been made with them to get another $10,000. It has to come to
Council but before it comes to Council I think it needs a lot more discussion by the committee
and the people involved to know exactly what-if there is a 10, what it is for, why we need it and
what we are going to do with it. Then we can bring that back to you. Then it is up for grabs at
that time whether you disagree or agree with it but you could have plenty of questions at that
time.
Mr. Marquardt asked, what do we plan to do with this agreement? What do we plan to get out of
it? .
Mr. Marrie said, what I see it as and as the committee sees it as, it is an agreement between us
and Case Western Reserve that opens up doors for us that we don't have access to right now in
the technology field and gives us buying power.
Mr. Saponaro asked, does this do this in order to put the plan together is my question? Is this a
step that is necessary in order to put the game plan together in what we are going to do.
Mr. Marrie replied in my opinion, yes.
Mr. Marquardt asked, what do we specifically get from it though?
Mr. Marrie said buying power of Case Western Reserve or the ability of buying power that we
don't have.
Mr. Marquardt said we're not trying to buy anything---
Mr. Mai-rie said but you can't buy it until you have an agreement. You have to have the
ability.. . .
