Regular Council Minutes
6-28-04
Page 25
Mr. Thomas said I can get that information.
Mr. Saponaro said I think that would be good--especially since we opened it up to all students in
the Mayfield School District regardless of where they live.
Mrs. Cinco said good luck Steve and Anne Marie.
Mrs. Roman said I also wanted to send best wishes to Steve. And on a sad note I wanted to
report that Shirley Jay's mother passed away. Services are tomorrow.
Mayor Rinker said Doug commented earlier on the work that our Service Department
Guys have done up on North Commons and I think everyone would agree-especially compared
to what it was before-it really is amazing the impact that some good landscaping can do. What
I am encouraged about especially is something that I've been hoping we can gear toward-is
having our Service Department do a lot more of landscaping and a lot of the design elements that
are going to go into the entire greenway area. Essentially, the philosophy being that if our guys
put it in and know how to do it, they are going to maintain it better and in the long run I think we
are going to prosper. I think we can also achieve some cost savings by their being able to do it.
So if you haven't seen it, take a look; at the stone work especially-I think it is especially
emblematic and a look, a motif, that I think we can put elsewhere along that whole corridor. So
look at some of those design elements. Your feedback is welcomed because the guys are really
going to be put to work over the next couple of years. And I think transformation is going to be
significant. It is nice to see the trees on the mounds by the soccer fields, by the baseball fields.
Those were actually a gimme, a little extra that we had from work that we did with Wiley;
installed by the contractor that we had for the Wiley project. So we were able to spread wealth
so to speak. That landscaping is not even done yet. We have other plantings that are going to go
in on all of those mounds, so you are going to see bit by bit as the layers come on, and some of
the touches that our guys can add to it, I think we're really going to start getting a sense of what
it is we have. Thank you.
Council President Buckholtz Phil passed me this note before he left just reminding people on the
July 19 Caucus/Combination meeting, we will be having One Cleveland come in with their
presentation and I don't know if this is for publication but it is for now-I mean, he was asking
whether 5:30 was a good idea; bring them in early and we're also going to be inviting some
business and community leaders who would definitely be involved in us taking the point on this
if we do it. I am all in favor of that; we would be able to provide some dinner, food or whatever.
So, that's what's being planned for that. Hopefully everybody can adjust their schedules to
accommodate that; that's on the 19th. (That's our scheduled combo meeting but we would start it
early and try to make a presentation not only to us but to the community members that we would
affect.) So I like that idea if everybody is okay with that and will work their schedules
accordingly.
Mrs. Mills said i forgot to tell you that these pens are from Mr. Paulich. He lives in Worton Park
and I had the opportunity to visit him.
ADJOURNMENT
