Regular Council Minutes
6-28-04
Page 7
circulate their own petitions and have it put on the ballot regardless of your feelings about it.
That's why they call it an initiative. It's an initiative from the voters themselves rather than one
presented by Council.
Council President Buckholtz asked, any further questions?
There were no comments.
Fire - Chief Mohr said we've been extremely busy over the past couple of weeks. You may
have heard a lot of sirens. That's because there has been a tremendous amount of activity. On a
positive note, you may have seen the newspaper article in which we and the Metroparks
purchased an AED (automatic external defibrillator) on a 50-50 basis and we put it down at the
Nature Center. There was good press about that, but it is in service. We almost used it the other
day. It is remarkable how we put these things around the town and very quickly the residents
and the patrons of the park and in this case the Park knew about it so it is a working tool.
Council President Buckholtz said Mr. Brett had to leave so I imagine no report.
Parks & Recreation: Mr. Thomas said last spring I thought was the wettest I would see but
unfortunately this year has been the wettest I have seen in the 30 years I have been in this
business. It has caused havoc with our adult programs and youth as far as make-ups, etc. We
have 2 upcoming special events: This Saturday, July 3rd, as part of our Fourth of July
_ Celebration, Parkview Pool will hold its annual Fourth of July celebration. We will have
performers, music, games and the Rec. Board will be selling rootbeer floats. On Sunday, July 11,
is the 15th annual Debbie Hudacko Memorial Run. That is our 5-mile run and 2-mile walk that
will start at Parkview Pool.
STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Activities Committee - Mrs. Roman said the committee was pleased with the turnout at 50's
Night and appreciated the help of all those who assisted us. We are looking forward to the
fireworks this coming Saturday. We have activities at the pool, a concert at the gazebo from 6-
10 and a number of other activities.
Architectural Review Board - Mr. Marrelli said at the Architectural Review Board
Meeting had no meeting in June but we had a meeting at the end of May and we approved one
home addition on Eastgate and a new building sign for Progressive, Building 3 on the front lawn.
Board of Appeals - Mr. Marrelli said Board of Appeals met on June 15 and granted a sign
variance to Progressive for the Building #3 sign; we granted a height variance for a new garage
for Mr. Mills; we tabled an issue for expansion of the Corned Beef Shop to do a parking study
and we tabled one issue for a lack of representative for Deacon's Chrysler Plyrnouth for a ground
sign issue.
Cemeterv - Mr. Saponaro said we met on June 18. I put in all your packets the minutes from
that meeting. If you have any questions on them, I would be happy to answer. I don't think we
need to read all the minutes. What we are basically working on now is: we have 2 bids out to
get the trees pruned and have an arborist come in there because the problem that Patsy and I and
