Regular Council Meeting Minutes <br />9-21-09 <br />Page 6 <br />Safety and Service - Mrs. Cinco reported that Safety and Service met on Tuesday, September <br />8. At that time they discussed prisoner housing for July 2009. The Committee had a nice <br />discussion on the fireworks display for the next three years. That is on the agenda tonight. Ms. <br />Calta answered a lot of questions on that for us. <br />Finance Committee - Mr. Marrie reported the Finance Committee met this evening prior to <br />this meeting. There are 18 items on the agenda, all of them are on the Council agenda tonight for <br />voting. They did have a question the last time on the Fourth of July contract of three years versus <br />one. Diane Calta gave us great detail and answered all of our questions. That was also on the <br />agenda and approved by the Committee. <br />Council President Buckholtz sat in on that meeting. On the Polar Express item, we are reducing <br />that amount to three coaches instead of four. We will amend that expenditure to $7,200.00. It is <br />selling well. It should sell out, but we are playing it on the conservative side. Mr. Thomas <br />added that we need to se1162 tickets per coach to break even. <br />Dr. Parker added that the only other item dealt with the Bureau of Workers' Compensation. The <br />Committee thought that a letter could go out to them supporting the group plan we are involved <br />in and asking them to look for ways to help those individuals who are not in group plans to <br />reduce their cost as opposed to increasing ours There was a memo from the Ohio Municipal <br />League that everyone should have received that discussed the fact that they are looking at raising <br />the rates of people who are in groups and lowering the rates of people who aren't. Dr. Parker <br />thought it might be beneficial for us since we save so many thousands of dollars, to send a letter <br />in support of the reduction of those rates we get and hopefully maybe instead of raising our rates <br />they will try to lower the other rates. <br />Mr. Marrie said we also discussed the Team Energetics Community Fitness Center proposal in <br />quite a bit of detail. Mr. Marrie will also be giving a report on this under the Recreation Board. <br />It was preriy much agreed that it might be a great idea, but for two things, one, the cost, <br />especially ours versus say somebody who has 20,000 like Mayfield Heights and, two, the timing <br />on it is not the greatest in the whole world when we are asking people to tighten their belts to <br />even think about a program like that. <br />Historical Societv - Mrs. Mills reported that the Historical Society had their ice cream social <br />which was very very nice. It was a lovely night for a change. Carole Gulaian was the winner of <br />the quilt. She is a member of the Garden Club and the Historical Society, so that was a very nice <br />surprise. <br />Hillcrest Council of Councils - Council 1'resident Buckholtz reported that there was no <br />meeting. There is no report. <br />M.A.R.C. - Dr. Parker reported that M.A.R.C. met on September 3`d. Items of note are the <br />Punt, Pass and Kick competition was held this past Saturday, September 12th. The 32nd AIll1U11 <br />Art Show will be held the weekend of September 25th. It appears that someone will be leading a <br />cheerleading class which at times has not been had due to lack of interest.
