Minutes of the Regular Meeting of Council
February 27, 2006
Page 4
moratorium last November on the statutory formula that was created by the TABOR, or the
Taxpayers' Bill of Rights. By a11 accounts, the TEL is more onerous than the TABOR in Ohio.
My colleagues and I and many of the Mayors and Managers are going to be spending between
now and November really trying to educate people as to what the implications are of this
constitutional amendment. It is going to be sold as put government on a diet. It's really much
more complicated than that.
Mr. Buckholtz asked what the second amendment proposed to be on November's ballot
was. Mr. Brett stated that Petro is working on one called CAP based upon the Michigan one.
Mr. Buckholtz thanked Mr. Brett for his report. Dovetailing off of that, Mr. Buckholtz
reported that on March 2°d, Congress is voting on a Bill regarding food labeling, loosening the
restrictions on the content descriptions in food. Mr. Buckholtz does not have all of the
information. He received an e-mail late in the day. If anyone is interested in contacting their
Congressman about this Bill, he would be glad to fire that e-mail forward to everyone in the
morning.
POLICE - Chief Dearden
Chief Dearden reported that this has been a very difficult and trying week for not only the
community but for the police department. As we continue with this investigation, we appreciate
your support and understanding of our situation. At an appropriate time we will provide a fuller
picture of the issues at hand.
PARKS & RECREATION - Bill Thomas
Mr. Thomas reported that 55 skiers traveled via a full charter bus to Holimont Ski Resort
in New York on President's Day.
Mr. Thomas reported that 93 resumes have been received for the Youth/Adult Sports
Coordinator's Position. We are starting the selection process.
Mr. Thomas reported that the MBA Basketball took 160 players, coaches and parents to
the Cleveland Cavalier's game on Friday, February 24th
Mr. Saponaro added that the MBA Program we have in Mayfield Village is outstanding.
Bill does a terrific job and Sean Supler who he has working with him does an excellent job with
the kids keeping the program on task.
