Minutes of the Regular Meeting of Council
Apri124, 2006
Page 6
Mr. Brett would like Council to review the memo he prepared. He also asked the law
department to draft the necessary legislation so that it is on board for the next Council meeting
and can be discussed in detail at the next Caucus.
Mr. Buckholtz indicated that this should be discussed further in finance. Additionally if
anyone has not yet read Mr. Brett's memo, it is very good reading. There is some very
innovative information contained in the memo.
POLICE - Chief Dearden
Updating everyone on the road construction which was supposed to take place over this
past weekend on Wilson Mills at the freeway, Chief Dearden reported that it was determined on
Thursday that the weather was going to be bad on Saturday so they postponed it a week. We
would anticipate that determining the weather conditions this week, they will probably cancel it
again. We are maintaining our stance firmly that they do that work only on the weekends, so it
should not inhibit any work week traffic.
PARKS & RECREATION - Bill Thomas
Mr. Thomas reported that on Thursday, April 27th, the fiber optics will be hooked up
from the Civic Center to the pool. IPS people will be hooking up their end of the deal.
Mr. Thomas also reminded everyone about the. dedication on the 291h. He had a program
to pass out, but the young man who was going to be singing the National Anthem a cappella is
not able to do it. We are looking for someone. We would like a high school student. We have a
program put together. Everyone's presence at 1:00 on Saturday April 29th would be great. If the
weather is inclement, everyone will be called and it will be on the hotline. Individuals are
coming from Columbus and the difficult thing is to make a decision for something that is going
to happen at 1:00 for someone who is going to leave Columbus at 10:00 in the morning. We
have a very nice program with Slider coming. Exhibition games will start at approximately 1:45.
The program will be short and sweet.
Mr. Thomas additionally commended Mr. Metzung's staff on their outstanding job in
getting the fields ready. It is very impressive. Fortunately, this spring is one of the best we have
had in a long time.
STANDING COMIVIITTEE REPORTS:
Activities Committee - Mrs. Mtlls reported that the Activities Committee met on March 22°d.
At that time the Appreciation Dinner was discussed.
