Minutes of the Regular Meeting of Council
June 12, 2006
Page 12
Dr. Parker asked about the area by Worton, adding that that was very tastefully done. It looks
different than this. This looks more like cement in stone, whereas that looks more like a layered
stone. It was very impressive.
Dr. Parker asked if this is the final deal. Mr. Metzung replied that we will model this after that.
They won't all be the same. In that regard, every gateway, every entryway that we do will be its
own, but we want to have a certain feel for it.
Mr. Buckholtz indicated that there is uniformity because you already have that stonework with
the underpasses, so that is not all that different. It has always been our intention to do this for all
of the neighborhoods in some kind of partnership. Bringing up his own neighborhood, the
homeowner's association collects $5.00 from anyone who happens to be home at the time. We
raised a lot of money for our sewers, but all of the work done on the new signs and a wall was
done in-house. We did not pay a dime for that. It may open a can of worms.
Mr. Saponaro clarified that it is not a can of worms. We have an opportunity here to make sure
that while we are doing this, we set a standard and a process on how we are going to address this
throughout the Village so that when we get a call, we know what our plan is, not just a generic
plan of, yes, we intend to do this at some time in the future, but at least here is what we are
looking at.
Mr. Buckholtz indicated that unless it is a construction project, that call is the motivator right
there.
Mr. Saponaro indicated that this project should go in to Beautification. When we create, which
we have not, a dollar amount that is going to be a part of a budget for Beautification, we should
put a budget together for this project, put it in to Beautification and have Beautification handle it.
Let's make sure we have got the process in place so that people know where to go and it is not
just kind of a helter skelter thing. We are much more on top of things than that and we need to
make sure that everyone knows that and we axe addressing things. The partnership is more in the
spirit of, hey, we are not just going to place something on the property and you will like it, but it
is more of a hey, I want you to have a say in what is going on.
Mr. Buckholtz added that it is not as much of a financial partnership, but is an aesthetic
partnership. Dr. Parker indicated that he does not think our track record has been anything but. If
someone were to approach us with a good idea that we felt was good for Mayfield Village, we
would do it. Mr. Buckholtz indicated it would be done under the auspices of Beautification.
There is no disagreement here.
Mrs. Mills asked who was going to take care of this when we landscape it.
Mr. Metzung indicated that in the license agreement or easement or whatever form is used, there
is a partnership stating who will assist in maintaining it, for example, the homeowner's
association will have license to maintain this as well as the Village. Aintree North's
homeowners have typically maintained those walls. He would expect them to continue. If they
stop doing it, someone will have to do it.
