Minutes of the Regular Meeting of Council
June 12, 2006
Page 13
Mrs. Mills asked who will be paying the bills for lights and water. Mr. Metzung responded that
the lighting will be covered under the street lighting. It will be tied in to the irrigation.
Dr. Parker indicated that in his neighborhood, they have always done their own maintenance,
have applied for their maximum grant and that is how they have handled it. Perhaps we need
some form of legislation or mechanism now where if people would like neighborhood
entryways, maybe the Village does take a little bit more responsibility. Quite frankly, $500.00
really does not go much for them to keep it looking nice and it is not going to go very far for
Aintree to keep it nice. If we put any more any other places, it is not going to go there. Unless
you get the people to do it, we will ultimately be stuck doing it.
Mr. Buckholtz indicated that in his neighborhood, there are people who enjoy doing that. We
have a Garden Club, we have people involved. He is not dismissing it. He would like to lay it
off on Beautification. We will move forward for now. We need clarification on what the
$6,000.00 is for.
Mr. Saponaro clarified that the $6,000.00 is for the signs designed and distributed to everyone at
the meeting. There are two of them. It should be less than that.
Dr. Parker indicated that they were not on both sides before. Mr. Marrie responded that they
were. Dr. Parker indicated that he does not have a problem with the Village maintaining
entryways that we deem important to the Village or as part of the overall beauty of our Village.
Mr. Metzung indicated that it is one thing to install and build and put in. Mr. Marrie asked who
takes care of it. Mr. Metzung said it is another thing to maintain that.
Mr. Marquardt indicated that the policy ought to be a contribution. Let the homeowners
landscape or maintain it how they wish, but pick up a bigger tab. If we have to maintain the four
cul de sacs and the entryway for $500.00, it is tight.
Mrs. Mills said that you will in essence have $1,000.00 because the Village matches.
Mr. Marquardt indicated that for four cul de sacs and an entryway it is not that much.
Mr. Metzung stated that in their neighborhood they do not have grass cul de sacs. They are all
landscaped with mulch and trees and they maintain those completely. We don't maintain those
at all as opposed to Echo and Zorn that we do maintain. Maybe that number will get changed
somehow.
Mr. Saponaro indicated that that could be something that can go in to Beautification. Mr.
Buckholtz and Mr. Marquardt agreed. Mr. Buckholtz stated that this is one of the reasons we
created the Beautification Committee. Mr. Saponaxo added that we are getting to the places we
need to get to in terms of getting this approved, but these are the ancillary issues.
Mr. Buckholtz asked for a motion for the signs.
