Minutes of the Regular Meeting of Council
June 12, 2006
Page 14
Mr. Saponaro, seconded by Mr. Marquardt, made a motion to authorize expenditure in an
amount not to exceed $6,000.00 to Northcoast Signs for signs for the Aintree North Gateway.
Roll Call: AYES: All
NAYS: None Motion Carried
Expenditure Authorized
Mr. Metzung clarified that for the sight part of the project, you will notice that there is a proposal
for new fencing down the Wildwood section of the project. That is the picture that shows the
stanchions and the split rail type fencing that was approved.
Dr. Parker pointed out that this is a different look than the other areas, such as Kenwood. He is
not sure if one will think it is better or worse. Once you start doing this, you have to commit to
do the same elsewhere. Dr. Parker asked if this decision has been made by the Beautification
Committee or a group of people who really investigate the best kind of fencing for this
community and maybe these kind of things will carry into our bike path or neighborhood
corners. He is not prepared to throw these in there and then they are everywhere.
Mr. Buckholtz indicated that we are not voting on this tonight, but you are pointing this out. Mr.
Metzung stated that this is part of the agreement for the property owner on the south.
Mr. Buckholtz referred to the fencing at the Historical House. Dr. Parker indicated that there are
differing opinions on that as well. Some people love it, some people don't. Mr. Buckholtz
indicated that you are always going to get that. Dr. Parker agreed, adding that that is why we
need to look at this issue. Mr. Saponaro asked if we are talking about a board on board fence,
like a privacy fence. Mr. Metzung indicated that we are talking about the split rail fence. Mr.
Saponaro asked how fax is it going to go. Mr. Metzung responded the length of their property. It
has one single return on it. Mr. Marquardt added that it is decorative. It takes down the board on
board which does not look good. Mr. Buckholtz asked if part of it was to shield the street and
this does not shield the street. Mr. Metzung indicated he does not know. He did not talk to the
homeowner.
Mr. Saponaro asked if the homeowner has agreed to that type of fencing. Mr. Metzung indicated
they have at this stage. Mr. Saponaro asked if we have made any final commitment. We have
made the commitment that it is going up, but we did not make a commitment that it will be that
fence. Mr. Metzung stated that we have not signed anything. That is being drafted.
Dr. Parker indicated that we need to act on the entryway corner signs, but he is not sure if we
warit to make this decision. Mr. Marrie clarified that he is just bringing that up. Mr. Metzung
indicated that they are together.
Mr. Marquardt indicated that every neighborhood does not have to look exactly alike. You are
maintaining some level of quality. Everything does not have to look identical.
