Minutes of the Regular Meeting of Council
June 12, 2006
Page 15
Dr. Parker stated that we have one kind of fence along the Historical House, we have one kind of
fence along S.O.M. right before Aintree and now we have this kind of fence going down along
Wildwood. There are three different kinds of fences. Why don't we take the time to draw some
concensus. They don't have to look exactly alike, but there are three different kinds of looks. It
is a very important decision in terms of the future. Here we are talking about all of these
entryways. This is the third type, what is the next one. ,
' Mr. Metzung stated that we have a problem in Tom's neighborhood along the Musca property.
Who is to say we don't use some combination of these exact same products along that section
going into Sandalwood to help hide some of that. There is a perfect example of the same exact
thing.
Dr. Parker indicated that it seems like we are doing things a little too hodge podge. It should be
more thought out.
Mr. Marrie stated that he hears what Dr. Parker is saying, but to reiterate what Bill said, not
every neighborhood is going to look exactly alike. If you like split rail fence, maybe your
neighbor does not. We had split rail fence there. They took it out. But even when it was there,
the one down Sandalwood does not block the big garbage things from the restaurant, CVS and
Aladdin's, so there are different situations that will call for somewhat different fences. All fences
have to be approved.
Mr. Saponaro indicated that the other part of it is, who made the decision. What was the process
where someone said we have to put a fence in, here are the choices, this will be the best. We will
pick this and we will go. Was it something that the homeowners chose? Did we suggest it to the
homeowner? Mr. Metzung indicated that we suggested it.
Dr. Parker asked for a definition of "we". Mr. Metzung responded, administration. Dr. Parker
indicated that a lot of time was spent to draw plans for various designs. This is our third series of
fencing or wall being put up. It is apparent at this point that we need to get some planning.
Mr. Marrie asked what is wrong with the fencing on the historical building? Dr. Parker indicated
that we spend so much time getting professional opinions on things. One may like it, but a lot of
people may not think it looks very nice. We spend a lot of money getting a lot of professional
advice on the aesthetics of this community and here we are making individual decisions based on
administration.
Mr. Marrie indicated that it goes to ordinance review.
Dr. Parker added that it is not uniform. We are lacking uniformity here. He is not saying that
there cannot be differences, but there has to be some uniformity in the thought process and what
happens here with what we are designing. It is hodge podge.
Mr. Marrie asked Dr. Parker if his house looks exactly like his neighbor's. Dr. Parker stated that
it does not have to look exact, but when the development was put in, there were certain
parameters so that things would look aesthetically pleasing and that is not being done here.
