Minutes of the Regular Meeting of Council
July 17, 2006
Page 10
Commission on Aging -Mrs. Mills outlined some of the events and advised that the calendar
and Minutes are attached.
Drainage & Infrastructure/Stormwater Mgt. -Mrs. Cinco reported that there has been no
meeting. There is one item on the agenda tonight dealing with completion of a project. There
will be an article in the Voice of the Village thanks to Diane. Applications for next year should
be requested now with the cut-off date of November 1St so that Tom, Doug and John can work in
the fall to get bids for work to begin early next year.
Safety and Service -Mrs. Cinco reported that Safety and Service met this evening. Discussed
was the replacement of an ambulance in 2007, netting for one of the ballfields at Wiley, street
striping bids which are on the agenda tonight and the surface of Parkview playground which
needs to be replaced. You will receive more information on this in the next week or two.
Finance Committee - Mr. Saponaro reported that Finance met this evening. Eighteen items
were approved to be brought to the floor for vote of Council. Also recommended were
Ordinances 2006-24 through 2006-29 and Resolution 2006-11 and 2006-12 for approval.
Historical Society - A copy of the report is attached hereto. Mrs. Mills added that the lighting
for the house cost $2,800.00.
Mayor Rinker added that across the street from the Historical House is the nearly finished
gateway structure for Whitehaven. We should let them know when they get it all done how much
we appreciate it. What a transformation. One of our goals in the redevelopment of S.O.M.
Center Road and the landscaping techniques was to have these structures play off of each other.
They do that very well. A little further on down the road, we anticipate redoing the wall at the
Aintree North entranceway starting this week. Also, in the Worton Park neighborhood, they are
starting to refurbish the walls over one of the creeks much as they did at the service garage.
Mayor Rinker wanted to take this opportunity again and remind Council representatives
for their homeowner's groups to make recommendations and also come up with ideas to beautify
their neighborhood. For example, a year to a year and a half ago, on Joyce, the homeowner's
group which had not had any play for a number of years, redid the stonework and added a sign.
That has really made a statement. What we are going to find is that at each entranceway for each
of our areas there is good opportunity to create that kind of a look. It all starts with little things
like putting fencing up, redoing a building. Each of these is going to be a project which will be a
signature look for each neighborhood. Mayor Rinker suggested each neighborhood be
encouraged to make recommendations. Kenwood Homes is probably going to be the next one up
across from Fisher's because those stanchions were taken away. Hanover Woods needs a new
sign. As we redo the entranceway at Raleigh, that will be an ideal time for us next year to try to
make something there. A gateway feel that gives people a sense of location.
Hillcrest Council of Councils -Mrs. Cinco reported that there was no meeting, so there is no
report.
