Regular Council Meeting
5-21-07
Page 4
Beautification- Mr. Saponaro reported that a meeting was held on May 14«'. They discussed the
poster project. It was a success for the committee and Village. The hanging baskets should be
arriving in the next few weeks. We are looking at putting a wildflower field at the 271 exchange
at all three locations. Highlands Heights would handle the fourth location. This won't require
huge amounts of landscaping or upkeep on the pa.rt of the Village or Highland Heights but it
does provide a more aesthetically pleasing view than parking trucks and other buses, etc. There
was also discussion regarding the Musca property. Other projects are in the works that we will
cull out and bring to Council for approval.
Board of Appeals - Mr. Marrelli stated that there was no meeting, so there is no report.
Cemetery - Mrs. Mills reported that the Garden Club and the students from the Horticultural
Center are working at the Historical House and the Cemetery. Mrs. Mills called Jim Dolatowski
today. He will make sure that there are small flags put along the fence over at the Cemetery in
honor of Memorial Day.
Citizen's Advisorv Committee - Mr. Marrie reported that a meeting headed by Jim Mason took
place on April 25t . The Committee is talking about the possibility of taking on the Sister Cities
project. Mrs. Betsa sent all of us a folder with the information on Sister Cities. One of the big
questions was who else has it. For the record, Shaker Heights, Beachwood, Solon and Hudson
are already into the Sister Cities program. Lighting at the Civic Center was discussed. This has
been taken care of already. They discussed the survey that Eunice's group sent out and
encouraged people to fill that in. Merv and Mary Singer are very involved with the Memorial
Day service at the cemetery. They asked for volunteers. The program is put on by the Disabled
Veterans. It is scheduled for Sunday, May 27th at 11:00. If anyone can. be there, it would be
deeply appreciated. They also need volunteers to place over 5,000 flags on veteran's graves on
Saturday, May 26th at 9:00 a.m. It would be nice if we could get some publicity for that. Merv
and Mary are very involved in this. We could use help at both of those events. It would be
greatly appreciated. Also, volunteers are needed for the upcoming summer events. The
committee was advised to let Mrs. Betsa know if you are available to help for cruise night, the
summer concerts or the July 4th celebration on June 30th. The next meeting is scheduled for this
Wednesday, May 23`d at 6:30 at the Civic Center.
Commission on Aging - Mrs. Kalina reported that the Committee met on May 3'd. The meeting
consisted mostly of finishing up details on the party. We also had a discussion on bocci. There
was thought that perhaps we would resume that activity, but we decided against it since our
recreation department handles that. They are more than welcome to join them.
Drainage & Infrastpucture/Stormwater Mgt. - Mrs. Cinco reported that bids will be opened
for the project this Friday. We will be looking for a meeting shortly thereafter, hopefully the end
of next week.
Safety and Service - Mrs. Cinco reported that Safety and Service met on May 7th. The
Committee discussed the results of the Raleigh Drive voting. We received an update on the
